Compact 9, I've Narrowed It Down To Four-Part 1

Well, I think that I finally narrowed it down to four pistols; two steel and two polymer. In this post, part 1, we will discuss the two steel guns. Then, after I have decided on one of these I will add the polymers and go from there.

The two steel guns are the CZ 75 compact with decocker and the Taurus PT-911.

I really like the way the Taurus looks the best and I also like the ambi controls since I'm left handed. But, looks don't matter all that much when you're in need of a dependable weapon.

So, how do these two guns compare in size, ease of manipulation of controls, dependability, accuracy, weight, and so on?

Which would make the best ccw and why?

Taurus Concerns

Hey-

You always get a million opinions when you post a question like that, and mine isn't even particularly informed, but this is it:

I like the Tauruses. They're small and good looking, and in the magazines they get great write-ups. HOWEVER: I have read on here, on packing.org and other places that the Taurus semiautos are less than reliable. This isn't by any means a scientific conclustion; it's an agregate of what I've been readin in my quest for a compact 9.

On the other hand, the CZs have a rabidly enthusiastic following. I'm at the point where I think a CZ will be my next purchase (AND... that two-tone 75 looks sha-weet!)

Just my pair of pennies.

There are a few horror stories here

with regard to that pistol. Do a thread search.

Have you considered the Kahr? Either the polymer or steel?

The CZ is a fine gun, but it is a double stack and is still relatively thick. Personally, I much prefer a thinner single stack gun for carry, like a Kahr.

If you do a search here on TFL, you'll find that there have been a number of folks who've had real bad problems with Taurus service. Given your choice between CZ and Taurus, I'd go with the CZ.

M1911

From reading his post, I understand that the gun that SkySlash had was the 111 and not the 911 that I'm talking about. The 111 is polymer and I've read lots of bad stuff about them on this forum. The 911 is not polymer.

I called my local dealer to get the prices of these two pistols. The CZ is 470 dollars and the Taurus is 356 dollars. Is the CZ worth the extra 114 dollars?

Are you in Kali, PawDaddy?

Even if so, I'd go to AuctionArms.com, GunBroker.com or any other place that lists FFLs by state to do a transfer, then search for the CZ I wanted at any of those sites, buy it, and have it shipped to the FFL of your choice.

If you aren't a Kalifornicator, then so much the better (unless in NY, NJ, MD, MA, even IL).

I just bought the CZ I wanted and did this last week, only mine is around 20 years older than yours will be.

Avoid paying either A) a percentage of purchase price for the transaction, or B) "tax" on the price of the gun.

Please don't pass up the CZ-75BD PCR [the only Compact with a decocker]. It is an exceptionally fine pistol for the money. The trigger on mine is great and the accuracy has been second only to my buddy's P225.

It's not all steel, btw...the frame is alloy and makes the PCR a dandy pistol for carry.
