Poll: Common Problems - H&K

I would like to take a poll of common issues that arise with specific pistols by manufacturer. This is not intended as a bash session. I only want to know what I might expect from the purchase of one of these guns. I am interested in any issues that might have happened since you purchased this weapon. If you have only put a few rounds in or have only experienced the problem once, I would suggest not listing it as a real problem. I am hoping for feedback from a number of people who have put hundreds/thousands of rounds over a long period of time. Also, if you purchased the gun used and or tampered with, please refrain from submitting a vote.

Please check off the areas you have experienced trouble with your pistol

I look at it as the cost of membership ;)
I've had a 91, 93, 94 and sp89 in the safe. Presently have P7M8, USP 45 and Expert 45. Very durable, very accurate, easy to maintain and have alot of fun shooting my HK's

The design of the weapon puts the muzzle higher then I like it. Still, I don't concider that a "problem", just something to be aware of when operating the weapon.

Others more knowledgeable then I would suggest that the design hinders recoil control.

I noticed you left out some of the American Makers (Ruger, S&W), September11. Any particular reason?

I can only speak for the USP .45F I have and it's been flawless with over 4500 rounds since I purchased it, 28 May '01. :D

HK's have no problems. The USP's are the most awesome guns EVER :D

Seriously, aside from the price of admission (it's WORTH IT), I can't think of anything.

I put 7000+ 9mm rounds through my USP9/40F, and 2000+ in .40SW. Zero malfunctions with .40SW, 4-5 FTEs with the 9mm BUT only with 139gr subsonic ammo when gun was spanking new.

My P7 is also monotonously reliable and accurate, not the slightest hint of a failure...The only thing I dislike is cleaning, the gun is a complete mess after 200-300 rounds.

best buy ever

the usp 40 was my first gun, and is still one of my favorites. I have never had a problem with it. I bought it new from a reputable deal on sale. He must of got the sale price wrong, I only paid $499!

HK problems

I had a Broken firing pin with HK USP full-size. Happened during live fire and the pin took a chunk out of the frame. HK replaced gun. Now on my second USP .45, and it has a chamber that is machined incorrectly.

My HK 40c. Factory ammo only. At 1800 rounds the slide cracked. Also the chamber had wierd abnormal pitting and scoring. HK replaced gun. Noted there was an issue with improper heat treating on some of the guns.

Lots of muzzle flip on USPs. DA trigger pull is terrible on full-size--lots of creep and stacking. As someone noted... much, much worse than even a lowly Ruger. DA on compacts is better, but still not in league of Sig.

I like my .45 because it is pretty accurate and doesn't jam. But that's about all I can say in its favor.

Those are only the two MOST IMPORTANT things an auto can do. If that's all you can say in its favor, you've said a lot.

I have a USP9 and a P7M8. I have fired about 6,000 rounds through my USP. I've had three failures to feed, and none in the last 3,500 rounds. I also had a flat spring break. The failure of the flat spring did not prevent the gun from firing; it converted the USP from DA/SA to DAO. The repair cost $3.00. I have fired about 2,000 rounds through my P7. No problems.

You will hear a lot of opinions about HK's service. HK installed an ambidextrous safety on my USP for me. It was in and out in a week.

Well, just shot my 5000th round tonight throught my USP .45F and it's still flawless. I have to admit the SIG P229, I also shot tonight, had a better trigger. But my choice is still the USP .45F, it fits my hand better and I feel more comfortable with it. I can't complain one bit.
