Poll: Common Problems - Glock

I would like to take a poll of common issues that arise with specific pistols by manufacturer. This is not intended as a bash session. I only want to know what I might expect from the purchase of one of these guns. I am interested in any issues that might have happened since you purchased this weapon. If you have only put a few rounds in or have only experienced the problem once, I would suggest not listing it as a real problem. I am hoping for feedback from a number of people who have put hundreds/thousands of rounds over a long period of time. Also, if you purchased the gun used and or tampered with, please refrain from submitting a vote.

Please check off the areas you have experienced trouble with your pistol

I've had one Glock 17 that FTF'd a lot, but in general I find Glocks trouble free. Except for the recently departed G17, I trust and like all my remaining Glocks.

11 September . . .

I own two Glocks: a 23C (in .40 S&W) and a 36 (in .45 ACP). They are excellent, high quality designs and are VERY reliable and durable. In fact, many knowledgeable individuals will tell you they are the most reliable and durable "reasonably priced" semiautomatics available.

This said, I find them to be far less accurate FOR ME than any of my other autoloaders. In previous TFL threads, others have commented that they, too, have unusual inaccuracy issues with Glocks. In fairness, however, please understand that MANY TFL members have commended Glock accuracy.

My problem is the trigger/striker feel, common to all Glock designs, which just seems odd to my primarily 1911A1/Smith "N" frame handgun upbringing. Obviously, this has an adverse impact on my accuracy with Glocks.

Once again, my advice is to handle and fire all serious candidates before purchasing. If you obtain good accuracy, I am sure you will find Glock's other characteristics to be excellent.

I would add one caution: Glocks do not have a true external safety or a de-cocker, although they do have the "trigger on the trigger" safety system. This does not trouble me greatly, but with a light DAO trigger pull, I would prefer a physical safety.

My Glocks are my beater guns. I'll throw one in my pack when I go hiking, biking, fishing...most anything ending in -ing :D I get them used and I do the abusin'. As tough as they may be, I hate getting my expensive guns scuffed up :)

Yeah, I've got a problem. I wish I had a Glock in every # they produced and even the ones in between :D

People say a Glock is like a Casio G-Shok while Sigs and HK's are like Rolex's. Well, if I'm in combat I'd rather have the G-Shok. I like a weapon that doesn't make one want to coddle it.

My G36 has about 1100 rounds through it but over the last two weeks I've had five failures to eject with 500 rounds. My gunsmith can't seem to find anything wrong and I know I'm not limpwristing. Gonna try one last brand of ammo before I send it to Smyrna to be checked. Hope springs eternal......

I have never had a malfunction of any kind with any Glock I've owned. There were some things about them I didn't like, but not problems. Very reliable.

I have a 19 and a 20. I haven't had any problems with either pistol. I have put over 2500 rounds through the 19 and about 800 rounds through the 20 so far. Problems are the exception with Glocks and should you have a problem Glock will fix it quickly.

Chorus

I will join the chorus. I own a Glock Models 19, 23, 27, and 30. I have shot Models 17, 21, and 22. I have yet to have a problem with any of them. Regards, Richard

I have a 1988 vintage 17 that has a lot of rounds through it. In the first 200 rounds the trigger refused to "let off" and the it wouldnt fire, no matter how hard you pulled on the trigger. Glock had it fixed and back to me in a week, they have great service dept. About 3 years later, exact same thing happend, and again, Glock had it fixed fast. At this point, I didnt feel comfortable carrying it anymore, and dont. I dont know if it was just a out of spec part (as Glock told me the first return) or gun, or if its the way I do something when I shoot (cant imagine what) but I've just recently had a very similar problem with a Keltec P32, no matter how hard you pull the trigger, no let off. This has me leary of Glock and DAO type guns, nothing worse than a gun that wont go bang every time you pull the trigger, and you know when that will be, at the worst possible moment. Ofcourse, I had just bought a Taurus PT145 (which seems to work flawlessly) at the same time I bought the Keltec, and I'm not sure I'll carry it at all now. Think I'll stick with my 1911's.

I have a G30, and a G27 (also put the G33 BBL in the 27) and have never had any FTF's or FTE's.....Not to say I wont, but I find the reliability to be unsurpassed for me so far.

I have several Glocks in 9mm. The 17L I bought in 1988 has the most rounds through it and has never had a failure of any kind with factory ammunition. I have had problems with reloads but they were reload problems not Glock problems.

funky sights

Glocks can have stovepipe FTF problems when you shoot with an awkward grip or if you limpwrist it. The plastic sights can wear out, even break off in extreme use.

Biggest issue is that the chamber is not fully supported so the cases bulge. Only an issue for folks who reload.

Other than that, they are pretty much problem-free. Much as I like my HKs, if bullets were coming in the window and I had to grab one semi, it would be my Glock 34. I also trust the Sig 226, but it's hard to get that first DA shoot on target.

Yo

I have a Glock 30 with about 4,500 rounds through it. I had some early feeding problems that I was able to trace to a bad magazine. I replaced the magazine, and I have not had any further problems.

Couldn't cast a vote...I've owned a dozen of the things by now, and there's never been a damn thing wrong with any of them. Boringly reliable...they just go bang.
