Poll: Common Problems - CZ

I would like to take a poll of common issues that arise with specific pistols by manufacturer. This is not intended as a bash session. I only want to know what I might expect from the purchase of one of these guns. I am interested in any issues that might have happened since you purchased this weapon. If you have only put a few rounds in or have only experienced the problem once, I would suggest not listing it as a real problem. I am hoping for feedback from a number of people who have put hundreds/thousands of rounds over a long period of time. Also, if you purchased the gun used and or tampered with, please refrain from submitting a vote.

Please check off the areas you have experienced trouble with your pisto

The main problem with CZ's is that they are such great shooters at a decent price, that they become addicting and its easy to buy too many of them!

Over 5000 rounds and still going strong!! Had a total of two malfs that were attributed to ammo (out of spec reloaded round) and shooter error (poorly seated mag during reload drill) to date. Replaced recoil spring at the 5000 round mark as a precautionary measure.

Lets see, a CZ75 Champion in 9mm with 5000+ rounds through it - no problems - no ftf, no fte - total xring gun.

CZ75 Champion in .40 with 2000 rounds - same

CZ75 IPSC Standard 800 rounds - same

CZ97 600 rounds - no ftf or fte, trigger a little rough but after an action job is a respectable 4.5 pounds pull single action. It is comparable in accuracy to my .45s which cost far, far more.

CZ75B SA in .40 - will let you know after its first range session!

The only real problems you might find are that CZ doesn't change their tooling in the manufacturing process often enough and some pistols may exhibit a rough trigger. That is easily rectified by using a try before you buy policy.

CZ is a helluva gun for the money. From the inexpensive models up to their factory raceguns they are truly one of the best values going in the gun world today. I own models across the price spectrum and am happy with them.

No problem at all

I got my first CZ75 in .40 back in June/01.
2000 rounds later no one single problem, no ftf, no fte, not one single jam, trigger could be better, but is getting smoother with use, could have better sights, magazines are about $40.00 a piece if you can find them, buy only mec-gar, factory magz are junk. The gun is a bit too wide for my hand, but I have no problem controling it.
Got my second one three weeks ago CZ75 Mil, but not enough rounds to qualify for this survey.
Gathering funds for my third CZ (PCR)

Go for it.

Carlos:)

What a surprize - interesting response.
I knew there were some CZ fans out there... but such a high percentage....

Based on previous polls.....

I expect some people to vote badly soon just to throw the results off. A lot of people do not like to accept that a modestly priced firearm can be as good as an expensive one.

hey carlos-you forgot to mention where you got those nice mec-gar 15rd mags from catcha on the forum!

Yes. my only source of highly reliable mec-gar magz is Bradster, see above post. I really like the mec-gar, they are so weeelllllll made. And they all are hi-caps!!!!.
Thank you Braster, now go and get some in .40...ppplleeezzz.

High caps in .40 are only available for LEO sales Carlos

Ok I understand that, but I can't find any 10 Mec-gar magz either. I know they are out there, my .40 came with two.

Thanks Slickpuppy

Loved mine until the firing pin broke, that'll learn me that I should use snap caps I suppose. Still at the smith getting fixed, maybe I'll like it again when it works.

I believe some people have reported that the Witness full size mags will work in the CZ 75 models. If that is true, CDNN Investments has preban 12 rounders in .40 for $29.99 and 10 rounders for $21.99 that are factory original. Those are made by Mec-Gar I believe. Also, my CZ97 mags from the factory are by MecGar as well.

Also J&G Sales has the .40 caliber factory 10 rounders here:
http://www.shooterstore.com/acb/showprod.cfm?&DID=111&CATID=636&ObjectGroup_ID=1859
They are $29.95 each there.

Personally, I find the CZ factory mags to be just fine.

CZ sights are set just under one millimeter too far to the left, necessitating purchase or borrow of a brass drift punch.

Two CZ83s, two CZ75 PCR Compacts, one 75B Military, one 97B. Can't say enough good things about them. Won't hesitate to buy more.

Take care. Marko

Presently 2ea 75B mils and a 85 Combat. Owned a 75B civie in the past. So far 100% reliability on all and very accurate.

Problems with Mil CZ-75

Initially I had no problems with my CZ 75, fine handgun, good accuracy. Only one jam my first 200 rounds.

After about 1500 rounds I started to experience recurring problems-

1. Round nose dives and jams

2. Failure to extract

3. Two cartridges hanging up in the chamber and jamming

4. Failure to fire

5. Excessively gritty and heavier trigger break

The first three problems I attribute to CZ's poor mag quality and a bad extractor. I seem to experience more problems with their 15 round mags than the 10 rounders. Since both use the same spring, I am assuming the 15 rounder has become weaker even though it has been used relatively little. With the 15 rounder it jams every other shot, with the 10 rounder I would say every other mag. The neutered mags also have a really bad design and the plastic separator wears out quick if you take it down often for cleaning.

Failure to fire was a result of me installing a Wilson spring replacement kit.

Excessively gritty trigger, hmm... The double action trigger mechanism of the B model is extremely difficult to take apart and requires an armorer's kit. I have never taken my CZ all the way down and I imagine the heavier pull is a result of cleaning neglect to the trigger mechanism. All the Military (contract surplus) CZs I have test fired have a crappier trigger pull then CZs regular line. Get a Pre CZ or a Combat model if you can.

On top of all this, CZs are known for having a poorly made slide stop. Mine hasn't given me any problems, but the range that I shoot at used to rent out a CZ and they would replace that part regularly. They seemed to think the CZ wasn't as rugged as the Berettas or Glocks and ended up discontinuing their rental service. From my experience the CZs internet reputation as a reliable and well made gun is a misnomer. Accurate and comfortable to shoot but not much else. As always, results will vary.

feed problems

ATeaM, I agree with you. I have nothing but problems with feeding. The first 200 rounds were great, only 1 feed problem. After that it was like a totally different gun. I jammed (and still does) at least 1 round in every mag.I had them look at the gun. They polished the feed ramp. the problem persisted. I have replaced the weak slide stop spring, but the problem continues. CZ is now sending me different mags with a different type of follower. Shipping a firearm becomes expensive after awhile.
