Comments on the S&W 945?

I may get an all-steel 5" 945 from the S&W factory in exchange for another Performance Center pistol (pre-sellout) that won't function reliably for me after two trips back to the factory. At least they offered it to me. Politics aside, I like the appearance of the 945 and the idea that ammo feeds more in line than the 1911. However I've never even held one. Anyone got any comments about the pistol, good or bad? I realize that a lifetime warranty from S&W may refer only to the company's lifetime, not mine. Thanks.

I have the Commander-length version and it is a superb pistol. Although I don't shoot it as much as my 'real' 1911s, it is every bit as accurate as my two Les Baers or my Kimber Classic Custom. I don't care for the 3-dot sights on this model, but I'll get around to changing those one day. Only other gripe is that it is a tad wider that a 1911 so it doesn't fit kydex holsters made for 1911s. Blade-Tech made me one. It will fit most of my leather 1911 holsters though. Same goes for the mags.

I think you will be happy with it.

I have both. And the winner is.......the compact. If I were you I would jump at the chance before they change their minds.

I don't own one but held one for the first time the other day. It was the all black compact model.

Without a doubt in my mind, it was probably the most comfortable gun I've ever held in my hand. And the looks are pretty sharp too.

Here in MA it is the only 1911 style pistol that is legal to sell.

M16, just curious, why do you prefer the compact? I don't own either but I've fired both and liked the full-size one better. Is it for concealed carry reasons?

I have had the full size version of the 945 for almost a year. It has become my favorite .45. I have a Kimber Custom that has had some custom work done to it, but the 945 will out shoot it any day in the week. Actually it will out shoot all my other .45 ACP hand guns. This includes a SIG 220! My S&W 945 has the black finish on the stainless steel, Bowmar sights and all the other goodies. This is not a carry gun (too large) but as a target or match pistol it is outstanding! Never saw a gun I didn't
like.

I picked up a new {pre-sellout} 945 in the last week. Mine's the 3.75" lightweight version. The fit and finish is outstanding and accuracy has been very good so far. Only negative is the trigger pull is to heavy, nothing my 'smith can't handle.
