commemorative firearms increase in value?

Do the commemorative rifles and handguns you see advertised in the various magazines ever increase in value? Or are they mostly a feel good thing? If you own one, did you decide to not ever fire it?

I have read about the Chs. Daly .45 Commander in the TSRA (TX State Rifle Assoc.) journal, and it looks nice... only 250 to be made...

Opinions anyone?

Most of the Sunday Supplement "collector" items are poor investments. Few people ever realize even a fraction of what they cost.

Usually the commemorative editions are too darn flashy for my tastes. There are few limited run pistols that I actually like. I could really use one of those Wilson modified Kahrs...I can dream can't I?

johnblackstone,
I belong to the TSRA and I have looked at that ad and thought about that pistol. I find it difficult to believe it would really be worth any more than a regular Charles Daly
to anyone other than a TSRA member. Seems like it was around $440 and you would probably have to pay tax so you would be looking at $475 or more invested in it. Maybe if they were Colts I would go for it.
I think I am going to pass on it.

They don't always increase in value.
Case in point: One of the major distributors (thought to be Lew Horton, but nobody is sure) comissioned the Colt Custom Shop to do a special run of U.S. Shooting Team Gold Cup Pistols for the 1996 Olmypics. Very nice guns intended to sell for $1200. They didn't sell and layed around the warehouse for a couple of years until they were sent back to Colt. Colt couldn't sell them as new again so they offered them to stocking dealers as "used" guns even though they had never been out of the box.
I bought one from my local dealer in mid-98 for $699, which was less than the standard Gold Cup was selling for.
I don't care that its a commererative and shoot it all the time. BTW: It does shoot very well.
