Comcast broadcasting/cable refuses new gun ads....

I read a media item online; www.wftv.com that major cable provider: Comcast, refuses to take any ads from stores or businesses that sell or use weapons/ammunition.

This is unfair IMO. The news report stated Philadephia PA based Comcast took these measures after Newtown/Sandy Hook CT.

Many gun shop owners & FFL holders in Lake County FL are mad too. This will be a loss of $$$ for them.
The firearms & shooting sales industry is now booming. Revenue & taxes can help improve the economy of some of these smaller areas. Comcast is wrong.

I heard about this a while back. I don't have Comcast anymore and I share this underreported info with as many people as possible.. Especially my left winged friends that say mainstream news isn't biased

Good to know, if they were not the only cable provider available to me on base I'd choose another provided. Until then, I'll unfortunately have to go through Comcast if I want to have internet service.

I read this a while back as well. Unfortunately for me there is no alternative to Comcast for the bandwidth I require. Rest assured the moment an alternative shows up we will switch.

My wife works for ATT and yes we would use Uverse in a heartbeat. Her management discount is VERY significant. Unfortunately they aren't able to move into every home. That whole monopoly thing still has an effect on them. There are homes in certain neighborhoods that can get it while their neighbors can't. And to keep this on topic. Comcast by comparison is allowed to run roughshod over the whole area.

I feel your pain on that one, for the longest time we couldn't get ATT in my Condo complex.

To anyone looking to ditch Comcast DirecTV will cost you less and with the right dish and installation disruptions due to weather are VERY rare. ATT U-Verse where available is also a great option.

Is there a way that a lawsuit could be brought against them for this? If a business refused you service for personal beliefs wouldn't that be a violation of the first amendment? If so then wouldn't denying to provide their service (airing a commercial for a paying customer) just because they don't agree with customers views be the same thing?

I may be totally off thinking this way, can anyone explain this to me?

As for the Directv comment we do not use Comcast or any of the services for TV. In fact we don't watch TV at all. Directv and others have satellite internet but its slow, horrible and expensive. I need real bandwidth to run my business from home. Both up and down stream. For now Comcast is the only company that can provide me a solution. If not for the economic impact it would have on us we would quit them altogether and buy a wifi hotspot from ATT. Thanks for the suggestion though Patriot.

I am not trying to be difficult (I am not good with legal matters just trying to get some clarification), but if a privately owned diner put up a sign that refused to serve people of a particular religion I would think that there would be a lawsuit.

What is the difference between the two scenarios? I could be wrong about the diner situation having a lawsuit. To me they seem similar, a private business refusing service to people based on a certain aspect about them.

new camper, the Constitution regulates the conduct of government, not private individuals. When you're talking about the restaurant refusing to serve people of a given religion, that might be a violation of that particular religious group's statutory (but not constitutional) rights under a civil rights statutes. Unfortunately, "gun owners" are not a protected class under said statutes.

Thanks Pat! Post #10...

Big ups to Pat. :D
Also while I agree with free enterprise & few govt restrictions, this just doesn't seem right. Ads & PR are for profit not "free speech" but to be restrictive to gun owners or 2A supporters, who;have no criminal records or mental health problems is ethically wrong IMO.

Knowing this about Comcast would make me want to get AT&T.

BTW; Comcast was the butt of many gags & jokes on NBC's 30 Rock sitcom(called Cabletown). :D
