Anyone have experience with Colt's World War TWO Limited Edition 1911A1???

It appears to be a very authentic USGI reproduction: parkerized finish, steel trigger, widespur hammer, pre-series70 firing pin, lanyard loop on arched serrated main spring housing, WW2 rollmarks, composite stocks, GI sights, even original type box with waxed paper.

Some people say they're rip-offs!

But, I would surely love to have one. It would be great sitting next to my 1945 vintage 95% Ithica 1911A1!

Saw one the other day...was considerably UNDERWHELMED...for the price, seemed like they (Colt) could have done a better job with the FINISH of the piece and all the small parts...oh, yeah...it was right at a GRAND!!!....mikey357

I paid 869 for mine. Love it. Be aware that it is NOT completely authentic. Series 80 firing pin, FP stop, extractor, etc. The trigger is not checkered either. I replaced all of the Series 80 capable parts with Wilson Bulletproof and found an old USGI checkered trigger that fits great.

Mine has never burped or bobbled. I put the "period" grip panels away for preservation's sake and put a set of double diamonds on it.

Great gun. here is my range report and a picture

The Colt is much better made and of superior materials than the Auto Ordnance. However, for a beater-shooter the AO is a helluva lot less expensive. The WW2 repro Colt would be great if only it cost a couple hundred less.

I would love to have one, but not at $900 to $1000.

Colt must be making a bundle on this one--it doesn't have the firing pin disconnect (less machining), it's parkerized (less expensive to finish) and GI sights (must be less expensive than the decent sight they put on even the 1991A1).

I know all that stuff is "authenic" (and that's what makes the pistol attractive). I'm just saying that say Colt is trying to make too much profit of off it. For most companies, their "milspec" model is the least expensive.

Colt will probably sell them but not to me--nostalgia is too expensive (and there are 1911 models are there that are better for shooting).

The Auto Ordnance is a POS and a Colt is well a Colt and I have owned both. But I would buy the real deal of a WW-2 era Colt 1911A-1 before I sprung for a clone even if it is a Colt.
