I just noticed on Colt's website that they are rolling out their bullet trap. It is an interesting idea, though similar to others, it will be worth watching how it goes in the future for this product.
What is most interesting about it is the trailer mounted bullet trap. I havent seen this before, though I have thought about how difficult it would be.
Here is a link to Colt's website so you can see the pdf information packets on it: http://www.coltsmfg.com/Catalog.aspx
Here is another link from Guns.com with a couple of videos, and also showing the trailer mounted bullet trap version: http://www.guns.com/video-colts-rolling-out-the-rapidrange-a-modular-outdoor-shooting-range.html
My thoughts at this time:
1. It seems to be a good product at first look, though it will more then likely be in a small market. I am unsure of how it will or will not compete with snail traps, berms, etc.
2. Cost. Colt doesnt list a price that I could find, and Guns.com states a 12k-25k price per unit. Just from looking at it from the cost part, I feel it is probably a bit more expensive then it should be. Why? There is a small market (my mind at least, and Colt may see it too) for a "portable" trap to take to a adequate field to use as a temporary range. While Colt has a good idea, I would say its a bit over priced. If it were around 5k-7.5k, I may look at it myself.
3. Long term performance. I guess time will tell how it goes.
What about ya'll?
