I have a colt defender in 45acp with colt out of business would you still carry the gun or just put it away for value reason thank you

if the gun is reliable and you trust yours and familys life to it, I'd carry it. As far as I know colt didn't go completely under just yet.

To the best of my knowledge Colt filed for bankruptcy protection and are currently still in business. I doubt these events will impact the value of your gun.

If you bought it to carry, carry it.

Colt's not gone yet & even if it sinks, the Defenders won't turn into solid gold overnight.

Huh? Colt is no longer? It must be true . . . . I read it on the "net"! :roll eyes:

If you bought you Colt to use and it functions fine . . .use it. Colt is not out of business . . . Maybe they will be some day . . maybe not. But the value of your handgun is not going to increase overnight . . . and maybe not even in your lifetime. But the option is yours since it is your handgun.

If Ford were to go out of business and you had a new Explorer . . would you park it and "hope" that it would/might increase in value? Life is too short to worry about such things . . . it's like betting that the interest rates on a savings account are going to raise . . . it's not worth it. :)

I doubt Colt's future well being was on your mind when you bought the gun.Life's short, use and enjoy your Colt,as you originally intended.

I doubt any of the issues Colt is going thru ...is going to significantly affect the value of your gun.

I think they will continue to deliver guns during this chapter 11 process...

Colt didn't magically shut their doors overnight. The brand has too much value to completely disappear. They'll restructure or be picked up by someone.

It's not the value I worry about I don't care I like to shot my guns the thing is if it breaks where can I get it fixed

there are 1911 gunsmiths everywhere, and millions of aftermarket upgrade parts for your gun that are leagues better than anything that could break on the gun. my boss and i were comparing holster wear on our defenders today, and while we were, one of his friends called about an $800 special on one at Buds that he is taking advantage of. go shoot it and enjoy

I would use it , unless I wanted one of my kids to make some money on it after I was gone . If it has any wear on it now from carrying it , I would still carry it .

What's the difference between not using it because you're afraid it will break, and not using it because it is broken?

Model-specific parts could be a problem if Colt went under.
Might want to order some spares for those to have on hand if & when.

I never thought of it like that before.....

I know there's a difference because my gut feeling is - - there's a difference,, but,, I'll be darned if I can come up with one!

FWIW, Todd Green has made comments addressing this in the past. His standard procedure became to have two of the same gun set up exactly the same way. One that was shot to the point of proving reliability, and then only shot every so often. The second was the practice/training pistol that was beat on. The idea is you carry the first and train with the second. That way you're not was worried about an impending breakage on your carry pistol.

I am the same way with the .22LR shortage - if I stop shooting because I ran out of ammo or I stop shooting because I am afraid I will run out, I still stopped shooting, so I might as well keep shooting until I am out.

That is getting closer, but Colt folding up may not be. Bankruptcy is not the same as closing - it is a legal means for putting off creditors, reorganizing, and very often continuing business under new ownership and/or management.

Lets see parts :rolleyes:My defender has Wilson , bullet proof , hammer, sear, disconnector, trigger and wolff recoil springs . Going to their bullet proof Ambi safety next.

Don't worry about parts their out their and will be for a long long time.

Colt not going any where Just another bump in road ,in their long history
