Colt

I think it's time to throw a lot of support over to Colt.
In light of the damage S&W has done - and the fact that its is going under.. Remember guys - this is one of the Oldest gun companies around and S&W Upper Management sold it out. Colt started to pull some crap and all the sudden out goes the CEO and in comes a new Ceo - this time a General.
They lost a big contract that they were counting on and are still making M-4s at a loss.
Colt is still making 1911s - this time called 1991s... but they are still making them. They are also still making SAA pistols.
Neat little guns like the Pony and Pocket Nine... and the Dick's Special are gone. For now. But I bet if Colt got some business back... Made some profit again...
maybe we would see some of these gems back in production.

Or I am all of the sudden hoplessly optimistic?

Either way - Colt is back in my favor and my next pistol will be a factory new Colt.

I am doing my part, just bought a new Colt HBAR II A3 carbine. I for one hope the stallion gallops for a long time to come.

Colt walked away from the consumer handgun market just when I got interested in the (now discontinued) Pocket Nine. What kind of support do you suggest I give to a company that won't sell me a product I want? Let them come back to the market and then I'll support them.

The Pocket Nine isn't all that great..., it has a really, really, REALLY bad trigger, and it's no smaller (though it's lighter) than a Kahr MK40.

The probably main reason it was dropped, though, was due to Kahr's lawsuit, for Colt's plagerizing the drop barrel action that allows that small a pistol.

But I agree..., I think Colt has probably had its hand adequately slapped.

For the last year that Colt was still offering revolvers they were being built by Roger Hunziker of Philips & Rodgers of Meduza fame. I know Rodger personally and his work, which is second to none.
The Colt "Cowboy" is built on the regular line at Colt and is, in my not so humble and much shared opinion, junk. The venerable Colt Single Action Army (all rise) is built in the custom shop and is very little better in the area of fit and finish.
Silwa(sp?), the former CEO had been at NASA before coming to Colt and prior to that had never owned a gun himself. I'm sure had the honorable Colonel Colt still been alive Silwa would have been his first choice to head up his 164 year old comapny.
But since they canned Silwa and George asked I'll go out and buy a new Colt 1911....er...I mean 1991.

Sensop, they told us we were supposed to stop calling those yankee governments names after the War of Northern Aggression. ;) BTW, what is up with the lower case "s" and the 11 post?

Wonder how I'm going to explain this to Terri. I know. I'll blame George..... :D

Buying a new Colt because George told me to...

'Tis I.

Well, I was wondering how long it would be before anyone noticed my new status.

My user name has always been lower case, even though I have always been a capital poster. :D But the new status is due to me drop-kicking my profile. I was in my profile, typing along to put something cute in my signature, and when I got finished and hit the submit button, the last thing my eyes saw was a new email!!! I was in the wrong box, just typing away. Okay, that's the one thing you don't mess with, the email. Somehow I got all over the tab key, several times, and was moving all over the screen from box to box. I got no business typing without watching what I'm doing. So. I'm born again! :D

George Hill, High Lord Admin, was kind enough to try to save me, but there was no hope, I had to die. (sniff!!) But, I feel young again. :p

I look at it on the bright side ... This is my opportunity to raise the quality of my posts and not run off at the mouth like I have been wont to do ... like now.

And it's 13 posts I'll have you know. I'm only two posts away from Senior Member status .... again (I'll bet money I'm not the first to do this).

Back to Colt's ... Is it true that Colt's is one of the few (maybe the only) AR pattern manufacturer that doesn't follow the original pattern? I read somewhere that they were one of the early alternate sources to the military, but they had gone PC and changed something on the lower assy that made it non-standard with the normal AR design. What's all that about?

Greetings,

The first gun I ever bought was a Colt (Commander), and so was the most recent (a used Officers' ACP in bright stainless). In between I bought 3 Colt .380's. One had a slide of too soft metal and Colt gave me a full refund. I'd buy another Colt in a second.

Regards,

Ledbetter

Gunslinger - you tell her that, and she'll want one too... Or she'll chase you AND me with an iron skillet!

I may have to delete this thread to protect the innocent!

I've got to agree, Colt seems to be doing some repair work in the customer relations side. I bought an obviously used mustang that had problems. I have no idea how old it was but - the original mags held 5 rounds and they sent a new owners manual that contained info on the mustang II and how to care for and check your extractor. Well after sending it to them for work (turned out to be a bad extractor that in all honesty I think I messed up) they fixed it, sent it back with the new manual and all at no charge!

I'm guilty of trying to keep them going over the years...very guilty. They've had active NRA/LEO annual sales programs in years past...hope they do again. I carried a CAR-15 for many years and it never let me down.

I'd buy a Colt . . . if I could find one for anywhere near a reasonable price. There are so few that prices are skyhigh. So, Kimber is getting my attention.

If Colt brought back the Delta Elite, with say a 9X23 conversion kit, I'd be on them in a minute.

You can order special guns like that directly from Colt. Check out the website.
E-tailing is a specialty that Colt looks to have gotten into.
