Check this out! Listed on GunBroker.com You won't see these often. Colt Z40 Ultra Rare Modern Collectable, his explanation is not quite right. Just before Colt made the decision to leave the commercial market it worked with CZ of Hungary to develop a double action only pistol for the US police market. The decision to quit the market came just as the first pistols were produced. As a result only 750 were produced and later quitely sold through a US wholesaler. This is sure to become very valuable in the future. The gun listed here is not mine, nor do I know the seller. Mine is in it's original box, unfired, in my safe.
The pistol has an alloy frame and an upper design very similar to a CZ75, the grip was designed to be similar to a 1911, the result is a relatively light and responsive DAO pistol in .40 cal. It's a shame it was never produced.

If you never fired yours, how do you know it's a shame they were never mass produced? I mean for all you know they could be absolute junk.
As for collectability, there probably is a market for ventures that never got off the ground, like say the Colt All American.
Just my $.02 :)

Don't know about ultra rare...at Franklin's of Athens gunstore in Athen's Ga., we had quite a few of them. Don't work there any more but I believe there are a few still in stock. Very good trigger for a DAO Colt.

Just FYI: CZ is Czech, not Hungarian.

:rolleyes:Ok.. Ok so it's not good looking and your right that it's Czech, not Hungarian (both of whom make excellent firearms, my mistake), the point is that it's says "Colt" on the side and there were only 750 produced. In my book that's ultra rare! The Colt All American was produced by the thousands. By the way, the pictures make it look chunky, it's roughly the same dimensions as a CZ75 and lighter because of the alloy frame.

Nothing, BUT NOTHING makes a Glock look gorgeous. ;)

I think it's the other way around. A Glock even makes this orphan Colt look good.
