This is Colts newer government 1911 gun with some extra's like nice wood grips and front serations for press checks like a Kimber Eclipse II,combat hammer, etcetera. Its about $300 cheaper though. Anyone have any experience with this pistol?

I have this pistol in the commander size and like it very much. Fit and finish are excellent as well as accuracy. I will definately be buying another Colt in the future.

My gunsmith really, really likes Colt steel and the XSE, so much so that he is now selling some (stock) right next to his high-end custom guns. He put a short trigger and Trijicons on mine. I've only put about 300 rounds through mine, but not FTF's of FTE's. I would put the XSE on par with full-sized Kimbers, better than Springfield or Charles Daly. Colt also has the nice, rounded frontstrap. I have always loved my Colts (four) and have never been disappointed by any of them as far as reliability goes. I don't know what people are talking about when they say they've had problems. The new XSE is really bringing a lot of those folks around, though. Do a search for "XSE" and see what you find (besides more advice from me! . :) )

Does the XSE still have the series 80 firing pin safety?

Colt used to build a nice pistol, but the 1991s were horrible, IMNSHO, and the last new Colt I ever bought.

The Springfield's, judging from the two I recently received as a gift, are excellent, and better than the Colt 1991s by a large margin.

Plus they don't have the Colt series 80 treatment, which I've never been a fan of...

Yes, the XSE has the Series 80 firing pin safety. I invite everyone to truck on over to 1911forum.com and take a gander at the Springfield board.

Hmm...

OK, been there, what revelation did I miss?

Without flaming Springfield, which I understand has great customer service (and I own one of their rifles), I have read many, many complaints on that board about Springfield reliability and fit and finish. Of course, I have read some too re: the Colts, and the XSE, especially dots falling off the sights. I'm glad your Springfields are treating you well. I think they are well equipped right out of the box with a lot of the features 1911 buyers are looking for.

I have one of the combat commanders and really like it. I also had one of the Kimber Custom shops ( Royal Carry). Beautiful piece....but I just couldn't hit as well with it as my Colt. The Colt worked best for me.
