colt xse or 70 series?

I'm in the market for a colt 1911, and I took a look at colt's 2015 catalog. I found that the colt 70 series and xse are similarly priced. I want a stainless standard government sized colt. I'm slightly leaning towards the 70. Now I know the 80 series xse has all the bells and whistles and the 70 is reproduction of the 1911 of days past. My main concern is will the 70 reliably feed all types of ammo including hollows (rounded or conical)? Is the xse more reliable in that aspect? Does the lowered and flared ejection port really make a difference? Thank you in advance.

P.s. does the 80 series FPS really matter? Does it really effect the trigger or is that a purist thing?

The XSE's have the firing pin lock. The 70's are not true reproductions of the previous Series 70's in that the repo's do not have the original Series 70 collet bushing. The standard 1911's worked fine with the standard ejection port, but then they only were made for 230 grain hard ball ammo. If you are going to shoot different profile bullets, I would go with the lowered ejection port...it can't hurt. The magazine lips are more of a concern about feeding those bullets you mention, not the ejection port.

The Series 70 reproduction should handle any kind of ammunition you put in it.

That said, IMHO the firing pin safety does matter. And you can buy a 1991 series Colt that looks just like the classic Series 70 (no front cocking serrations, etc) but has the firing pin safety. And it'll cost you less than either the Series 70 or the XSE.

The 1991 series are a good combination of function and classic looks.
I much prefer the slide rollmark to the dated, groovy one on the S70.

The ejection port matters when ejecting live rounds, when you unload.

I just had to do a little work on a friend's older colt, as it would not eject hollow points or fmj that has a more conical shape, rather than the original rounded.
