Colt "Ultra Elite" .380

Hi Guys, I was at one of my (lesser) favorite gun shops yesterday after the GOAL Rally in Hudson, MA. They had a used Colt Ultra Elite
.380. It had wooden grips, seemed to be in better than 95% condition, with probably less than 500 rnds put through it. I might have bought it
on the spot, but they were asking $400 for it! Seemed to be quite a bit for this little thing.

My questions are, 1. Has anyone had some experiance with this particular mouse-gun, good or bad? 2. Not considering the recent gun ban in
Massachusetts, what would be a fair price for it? (Obviously i'd have to allow the gun shop owner to charge a little more to try to stay in
business now that he can only sell used guns and some new S$W's.) Thanks in advanse.

Don't know about the "ultra elite model," but here in California I just bought a used 98% stainless steel Colt Govt. .380 with holster, mag pouches and three mags for $450. I currently have three Colt .380's of varous models and I think they're great little guns.

Thanks Ledbetter for the info.

The shop also had a Govt. 380 which was in 75% and seemed to need a very good cleaning job amoung other things, $300.

I guess that the "Ultra Elite" was different from the Govt. 380 in so far is that it had wooden grips, SS frame, Blued Slide, and a slightly smaller barrel (maybe 3.25" vs. 3.5".)

Both of them only had one magazine.

It would seem that $400 wouldn't be too bad a price for this one. I believe i'll have to pick it up.

What is your view on the availability of magazines for these?

USP: I (er, rather, my wife) has a Colt Govt. Model 380 in stainless. I don't remember where I got the extra mags, but I did find them easily. Jared

Brownell's or colt380.com should still be able to get mags. I've never had trouble getting them, but in the future who knows.

Hope you'll let us know how you like your new gun.

You can get them in stainless and blued in origional and after market. Looking for a web address and will post if I can find it. Very reasonable.

FYI, one guy's bad experience with the Colts...I bought a well-used Mustang. Accuracy was terrible. 4" groups at 7 yards. Couldn't hit a tin can at much more than arms length. Traded it in on an FEG APK .380 (PPK clone)that consistently shoots 2" groups at 15yds. Much happier now.

Just one guy's experience...

I have two Colt .380's, a Mustang and a Mustang Pocketlite; both are just great performers up to about 10 yards.

I don't think that the practical accuracy is limited so much by the gun as it is by the sights. The sights themselves are relatively useless and the sight radius is short. That can be corrected, but not cheaply. Jared

USP: You going to Major Waldron on Sunday? If so, I'll bring along my wife's .380 Govt. Model.

Jared

I have a pair of Cold Mustang pistols, one Pocketlite and one SS. I sent the Pocketlite to Mac Scott at SM&A for their Pocket Carry Package, and it's real improvement for the little gun. One of the nice additions was real sights. :)

Jared - I am planning on going to the shoot at Major Waldron this weekend, but my plans arn't finalized just yet, i'll let you know. That would be great if you could bring the little colt with you. Thank you.
