I have a Colt Trooper MK lll 357 Buckeye State Sheriffs 50th Anniversary revolver ( 1 of 200) S/N 57990 L. For some reason I can't pull this s/n up on the Colt website. Can anyone help me out?

Thinking of selling it and wanted a little more info.

57990L was made in 1981.
The year started at 55766L. 1982 started at 80699L.

The Buckeye State Sheriff's 50th model was made in 1981.
There were 30 made in bright nickel and 170 in bright blue.

The value in commemoratives is in it being in 100% brand new, unfired condition, in the original factory box with all papers, hang tags, etc.
If it's been fired or original boxes or papers etc are missing, value drops fast.

Thanks for the info! Any idea what it would go for? It's in the Wooden box, never fired and it's the bright blue.

Commemoratives are specialty guns that will usually only appeal to some buyers.

You'll get the best price selling it on Gunbroker auction site because you have a far larger potential market and prices on Gunbroker tend to be higher than other places.
You'd get the lowest price at a gun store, seldom anywhere near the actual value.

Interestingly, I also have a Buckeye State Sheriff's Association (1 of 200) 50th Anniversary Commemorative Colt Trooper MkIII revolver. Mine is serial number 58006L and is blued with the walnut box.

A couple of my brothers, who live in Ohio, also have them. Thinking of selling mine and buying something I can shoot.

Got it for Christmas from my father who was a Captain in the Shelby County Mounted Patrol.

Sparkie, I don't want to appear judgemental, but, imho, a Christmas gift from your father is a gun you should never part with-and will become a part of your family's history as the years roll by. And if you eventually decide to follow my advice and keep your fine Colt in the family, you should not have any second thoughts about shooting it because any diminished collector value caused by using it becomes a moot point. Just my thoughts.

I agree with dgludwig.
And every time you take it out and shoot it, it will be a reminder of what a wonderful father you have!
