Colt Trooper Mark III Valuation/Dating Help

My father is considering buying a Colt Trooper Mark III, that is in 98% condition. It is a 22LR, 8'' barrel, satin nickel finish. Serial number Y171xx. He has been told this is a "rare" firearm. Can someone help me with the year manufactured? Is this truly rare? When searching the internet I have only found two sales listings for this particular combination, most are the .357 or with a shorter barrel. Any guess as to an offering price would be great. Thank you so much for the help.

By the serial number it should be a 1980 model.
The .22lr model is not rare. The .22WRM model is the rare one.
I have a 8" blued Trooper MkIII chambered in .22lr. I paid right at $400 for mine as it looks almost new and has the box and papers. If your father is getting just the revolver then I would say the price should be from $350 to $400.

Colt Trooper MKIIIs in 22 are being discovered by shooters. I have noticed prices climbing lately. $400.00 is not out of line. I did see one with box and papers on a on-line seller for $525.00. It went fast. When I called, it was already sold.
