Colt to Open New Facility

Looks like Colt Manufacturing Co. is opening a 16,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Florida.

It might have to do with the tax policies and other work costs in Connecticut?

I will second the "Hurray!!!!"

I hope that Colt does work on expanding production so they have more firearms available to purchasers. For the last couple of years it seems there is a supply of purchasers, but not enough Colt firearms available. Namely the 1911 line as well as the AR line. I hope this is a step in the right direction. I also hope they will bring back some of their other designs from the past.

I do wonder though exactly what they mean by, "expand into new markets and business lines in parallel with the company’s existing 100,000 square foot facility in Connecticut." Are they going to start manufacturing parts or possibly some firearms to increase production, or are they going to start making something totally off the wall?

Colt can make a person wonder with some of their ideas.

Edit to add, just found this article that makes me wonder even more...

"it won't be "any of the existing products" it makes currently at its Connecticut plant. Colt's Canadian unit also has a factory in Ontario."

One of Colt's problems, it seems to me, is that no one wants them to make anything new.

It could be Colt has finally decided to do the IBM thing. Years ago, IBM to NYS it would move it's headquarters and manufacturing out of NY if certain legislation was passed...it worked..the legislation was not passed.

If Colt already has another facility in place, it may not be where they are planning to manufacture products already in production, but it gives them the option, at some later time, to tell Conn to shove it.

Boeing did the same to WA.

The local news said these jobs were engineering jobs, not manufacturing ones

Secretly developing the Colt 2011...that will replace the 1911 and M9, so we can purchase finally purchase them from CMP

It probably won't be a new python so I'm not too interested. Even if they only did one barrel length and sold them for $1500ish they would sell all they could produce. Plus, it would drive the price of used ones down to reasonable prices
...IF they were as good as the old ones. Oh well, we shall see.

I for one would like to see a resurrection of Colt. Right now, all I see NEW with the Colt name on it is 1911, the ARs, and the SAA.
