Colt Sharpes

A friend of mine was showing me a Colt Sharpes rifle he has had for years. It is a single shot falling block rifle in .30-06 with a 26" bull barrell. The gun is in pristine condition and never been fired. The gun was apparently a prototype because there isn't the first marking on the whole firearm - it is truly beautiful. The only way he knew what he had was because he wrote down what the seller told him when he bought it. Apparently there were only a couple hundred made, but he doesn't know exactly how many and when. Nor does he know the value.

Some points in the right direction to find out more about this gun would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! -JHP

The Colt Sharps was made from 1970-1977, in a number of calibers, including .30-'06. It was a deluxe firearm, with high gloss blue, checkering, etc. Approximately 500 were made. The Blue Book shows a 100% condition price of $2295, 98% at $1950.
