Bought a matte stainless series 80 colt 1991 saturday. Anyone have one and if so how is it. It was used but looks unfired. Made in 2000, paid $500.00. Thanks for any input.

ruger357, Sounds like you got a pretty good deal if it looks new and unfired. From what have the the Series 80's are nice guns. Good luck with it and better change your user name .. :)

I have that model too. OnlyI don't like the matte finish, so i let it's stainless came out by using a 1000 sand paper.

The gun shoots very well, specially when I change the 16lbs recoil spring into 18.5lbs. to make the barrel bushing fit very well or no any freeplay at all. I used it now as my CCW and target gun for i modified a lot of it.

I'm proud to say that I feed standard and Major load or +p+ bullets and it is just fine. I am using 210grn 5.2smp powder load for target shooting and the gun like much the major load bullet.

Enjoy your SS M1991A1 :)

I've had two of the carbon versions. Both were perfectly reliable and acceptably accurate. What I did not like about them was that the finish showed wear very quickly with little use. Your stainless should take care of that.

I just never fell in with the whole 1911 thing so I sold both, but lots of guys love them and you got it at a decent price. Be happy:)

I've got one. Like it alot. Figured when they went on sale last year, I'd better pick one up & I'm glad I did.
It's has been 100% reliable and dependable. The only problem I've had with it (some call it a sickness  ) is that it has turned into a project. Trigger, trigger job, beavertail, thumbsafety, MSH, new grips and some new sights. Man, there is a HUGE accessory market for these guns! :D

Colt's still tryin' to improve their QC. I just bought this SS M1991A1 with the new rollmarks. They come with all-black grips, long alloy trigger, and flat MS housing. I changed mine with medallion grips, short trigger, and arched housing. The overall QC is excellent, however Colt is still having trouble learning how to properly install a plunger tube. I'll have to replace the one on mine sometime soon. When I do I'll also shine up the flats a little more.

Nice looking gun dsk. Was the MS housing hard to change? Plus does the new one come with the springs or do you have to take them out of the old one?

MS housings are a drop-in fit, but you do need to disassemble the frame if you want to make it easy. Many folks only remove the housing, then the sear spring jumps out of position and you're hosed until you get the rest of the frame apart to put it back in. The housing is minus the spring, so that has to be installed (a simple matter if you have a small pin punch).

I bought my (black) Parkerized, Colt 1991A1 about a year ago. My 1991A1 came with an adjustable match trigger, and a stainless steal barrel. I have never had even one problem with my 1991A1, it's one of the best guns I have ever owned, and also very accurate. ;)
