Colt/Saur Rifles

I loose more brain cells daily, and "new" information continually manifests itself from "out there."

So, am i re-imaging things or was there really a rifle made back in the 70s by Colt/Saur?

I have searched the web and this forum with no mention of this rifle anywhere. I am starting to question my sanity. Others do that all the time, so I gues I should join in.

I handled two of them: one in 300 Win Mag and the other in 7mm Mag. The actions were exceptionally smooth. The bolt mechanism did not rely on turning lugs for a lock-up, but locked when the lugs were cammed out of the bolt body upon rotating the bolt handle to the closed position.

Anybody out there know any thing about this rifle, or am I just disremembering and need too re-adjust the aluminum foil in my hat and go back on medication?

Yes, there was, and the locking lugs did cam into and out from the bolt body, which seemed "strange" to me.

I saw ads for the rifle, but never did see an actual piece. As I recall, they seemed pricey at the time. I would assume that they are long gone, other than on the used gun market.

Yes I remember the Colt Sauer Rifles. I had two of them at one time. Only problem was that they were both in 22-250. Not really a problem but in that type of rifle I really didn't want a varmint caliber. Needless to say I got rid of both of them at a handsome profit. I still see one every now and then. They were really a quality built rifle.

I had a Colt Sauer .270 that was absolutely gorgeous. The action was smooth as silk; the bolt just slid right down with no wiggle room at all. Why did I sell it?

If I remember correctly, they were made for a limited period (1980 to 1984?) by Sig Sauer and Sons in Germany. The same company made some of the Weatherby's, so there's some resemblance.

They do have a collector following, and the larger calibers fetch the most money. .270 and 30-06 are "common," and cost the least. There's a dealer in Rice Lake, WI who specializes in Colt Sauers and is reputable.
Email me if you like, and I'll look up his name.
