A Colt 357. That's not only the caliber but the name of the model. Stated as 3-5-7, the precursor to the Python.

Here's a short history of the Colt 3-5-7 Model.

Today these are becoming much more valuable.

Your gun still has the original fully checkered First Issue Colt Target grips.
The grips alone are worth prices that START at $200 and go UP from there.

Your hammer was not bobbed, it was dropped or struck and broken off.
You could have the broken Colt Target hammer replaced IF you can find an original Colt hammer.
Since the 3-5-7 is the same action and frame as the Python, a Python hammer will fit.

Your 3-5-7 is in great need of a good cleaning to remove the old dried lube and light rust that's starting.

Colt no longer works on these older models and has no parts.
However there are two Master pistolsmiths who do repairs of Colt revolvers to Colt factory standards and specs.

Spartan's Lee Specklin was trained at Colt by a legendary Colt Master gunsmith.
He also has some supply of Colt parts so possibly he might have a Target hammer.

As in your other post, the "VP" in a triangle is Colt's Verified Proof stamp.

On the rear of the trigger guard web will be a letter. That's the stamp of the Colt final inspector.

On the frame under the serial number will be another letter or number. That's the stamp of the person who assembled the gun.
