They were mostly hand fitted & the major tooling was wearing out !

Slug a late model Pythons barrel & see what it slugs !
 
The Python is dead. Long live the King.

But I like to believe that sooner or later, Colt will return to manufacturing revolvers and a new Python II model be offered.
 
Colt no longer has any of the tooling for their double action revolvers, as they got rid of it long ago when they stopped production on them. The cost to get back into the DA revolver game would be prohibitively expensive, especially in today's polymer wundernine world.
