Colt Python Target 38 spl. Manufacture

Guys, I need your help here.

I'm lusting for a Colt Python 8" blue in 38 spl. only! It is their Target model. I'm looking at two on gunbroker.com. I understand that Colt eventually dropped the 38 spl only due to lack of sales. True? Anyone know when these guns were manufactured? One is a used 8 inch for $995, serial number, V#2121. I can't make out the full number. It appears to be close to mint.

The other is a new 8 inch for $1050. Don't know the date of manufacture but sure would like too! I know these things are expensive. I want one anyway.

By the way, I plan on shooting it, (as well as fondling). Advice please!?!

Interesting - - -

I've seen the illustration of a Python .38 Special in Southerland & Wilson's Book of Colt Firearms, but never seen one "in person." I don't think they said exactly how many were made.

Best,
Johnny

The .38 Pythons are very rare, there are some Colt fans that would scream if you actually shot it.
I would lean toward buying a new Python Elite if I had $1000 worth of inclination.

Well, I've no book on my lap but I remember they were produced when my brother and I were still talking (kidding) back around '77-79. They were out for only a few years before Colt stopped production.

A gunshop in Moorehead MN sold one in nickle finish about two months ago for $800.00 . Original asking price was $1000.00. Gun appeared to be in new condition.

I'm going for the used, in mint condition, blue one. I like to shoot the guns I buy, even this Python! I've been looking for a long barreled 38 spl only target gun for a long time. (I've got a 686 in 8-3/8 already. It likes jacketed mostly.) I can't even find a new blue one at the Smith web sight. Besides, I already own 5 Smiths. I have always always wanted a Python. (I have posted in the past that the Python was overrated, but that was said in the context of heavy .357s.)

This gun will be treated LIKE A BABY! I'm talking about a diet of 148g wad or 158g swc in LEAD ONLY! It will never see a jacketed bullet, much less a +P. I have my 586 snub and 686 long barrel for that stuff. I want this piece BAD, so please, you other TFL'elers, leave this one for Justin, OK! I know, I know, I am incredibly selfish. :p
