Around here that price is in the ballpark though at the higher end. I'd try to get them down a bit but wouldn't feel too bad if I had to pay the price.

Even though I feel all Colt Pythons are overpriced, that is on the lower side for a 98% blue 4inch. I don't think you could go wrong at that price; that is if you have the money and know you are paying a high price for a gun, that in my opinion, is a little over hyped. Yes they are very nice guns, and they are probably the most beautiful DA revolver around. Though I have not shot one, I have heard they don't come any better. But I still feel paying over a $1000 for any handgun I plan to shoot is too much. But then again I am not exactly made of money and looks are not the most important thing on my list.

That being said, if I had the money I would jump on it. That is about $300 cheaper for one of lower condition around here. You could sell if for hundreds more easily if you feel you made a mistake.

That's a great price for a 98% 4" blue. Buy it!

For reference, I somewhat recently paid:

$1,000 for a 1957 6" in 85% condition - 8 months ago
$1,300 for a 1960 6" in 98% condition - 1 year ago

SafeQueensI understand the safequeen bit academically.

If you're not into shooting fast bullseye matchs like the Bianchi Cup and PPC then it is no wonder why most shooters do not see the value in a 4 or 6 inch, blue or nickel, stock, Colt Python.

I collect Colt's "snake guns" and would gladly pay that for the Python, as described.

I say you should have grabbed it - they are a real joy to shoot (one of the few triggers I like more than a customized 1911).

I PM'ed the original poster as he suggested to get the dealer's contact info to check out the Python and he never got back to me....

Guess I wasted my time.

I went back this morning before WORK to check over gun again to make sure that it was 98% or better, The gun was gone!!!! Even though I had a 24 hour hold on it, the gun was sold!!!!! "fdreano" I worked a 12 hour today and no access to computer, just opened up your private message , sorry I wasted your time.

That's what I paid (Retail $17xx) for my brand new S&W 627 V-comp. What is it worth now? What will it be worth in the long future? $800? $600?. What will the Colt be worth?

You could give me that Colt, but I'd just sell it for the money, but I buy a gun to shoot, and not have to worry about whatever. Like an old hotrod, I'd drive it, and pass it on what's left to whoever when I die.

It has a value of $1200, but try to sell it back to them for $1200. $800 maybe $600? just a thought.

When you find a true 98% 4" blue Python for $1,200, you buy it and leave with gun in hand. If someone else is even in the store when you are looking at it, you don't even ask questions or try to negotiate - all you have to do is make sure it is operable, then say "I'll Take It", pay and leave.

If you have buyer's remorse, then sell it on this board for $1,300 and make a $100 profit.:)

In my area (Maryland, Mid-Atlantic), that is last years' price. Pythons are now in the $1,400 range in a gun shop or at a show, especially for one like you describe. One thing to keep in mind is that the gun has the original Colt wood grips. If it didn't, you'd be looking at around $250 to buy a set used.

Every time I have enough $ to buy one, the price goes up by $200.
