Colt Python and the Colt Python "Elite"

Can someone tell me the difference between the two? I know the "Python" is a great revolver but I can only find the "Python Elite" on Colt's web site. They look basically identical to me and I don't seem to find any difference. Can someone tell me if there are any difference and why?

The difference isn't much more the name stamped on the barrel.

The sole differences between them is, the Python Elite has different spec barrel threads, so older Python barrels and Python Elite barrels won't interchange, and the Python Elite has a single pin holding the front sight, where the older Python had double pins.

Other than those minor differences, they are the exact same gun.

Except Colt isn't making the Python Elite this year. The two reasons (rumors?) I heard were that they were retooling to get better tolerances and / or that they were focusing on their 1911s instead.

What?!! They are not producing the Python this year?? This can't be happening to me. I want my Python/Python Elite and I want it this year.

I "think" (not SURE) that you can get a Python through the Custom Gun Shop even while production is down.

Likely, this will cost more.

Elite?

I can't exactly remember how the story goes but it's something like this...

Until a certain year, COLTs were the good guns known by all.
Then for a period of time (the 80's?) quality dropped significantly.

To gain confidence in quality upon its return, they added the Elite brand to emphasize the difference.

This can certainly be confirmed by the original storyteller.
Perform a Search under "Elite" and I'm sure you will find it.
