Colt Police Positive Special?

Anyone here own one? I'm investing in one, but was curious about anyone's likes/dislikes with the gun. Right now, the big thing with Colt guns are either the 1911s or SA revolvers, not so much the DA products.

Just curious.

The Police Positive was manufactured from 1907 (first issue) until 1995 (forth issue). Considering the lengthy production period and the large number manufactured unless it is a rare variation the Police Positive is not considered an investment type gun.
They were, however, an excellent utilitarian service grade revolver. Dependability probably being their best characteristic they were not especially noted for having out standing actions nor for pin point accuaracy. I like them for their sense of nostolgia and simplistic beauty. There really is nothing to not like about them for their intended purpose.

I have a 4" Diamondback in 38 Special which I believe is same revolver but with heavy ribbed barrel. My (my wife's actually) Diamondback is one of the most accurate revolvers in my battery and can keep up with my Python in accuracy out to about 25 yards. With smaller size grip than Python, it fits my smaller than average size very well and is comfortable to shoot +P ammo. I have been looking for a 4" Police Positive to carry while hiking but have not seen any in "very good" to "excellent" condition.

Taco, for a hiking gun, Colt's last model Police Positive ( with an ejector rod shroud ) had an alloy frame twin brother called the Viper. In earlier unshrouded ejector rod models, the cobra was made in 2, 3, and 4 inch barrels.

I used to see brand new barrels for the frame at gunshows that could be bought reasonably. I'd love a 3 or 4" cobra to go with my 2".

I'm very happy with my Police Positive Special from the '60s. It's a fine revolver, made right, the way Colt's used to make everything.

I think that Colt DA collectors and enthusiasts are out there. IIRC, in the last few years the NRA gun collector's magazine, "Man at Arms," has run a couple of articles on modern DA revolvers (although not the Police Positive). But, yes, the SAA and the 1911 seem to have a wider following.

I am buying every Colt handgun that I can find a decent deal on as I don't think we will see any more production guns from Colt. Just MHO.

If your looking to government for the solution, you obviously don't understand the problem.

Awhile back bought a .38 S&W caliber Colt Police Positive with 4" barrel with walnut checkered grips w/Colt medalion. It has unusual stamping on back strap "AM RY EXP' which probably stands for American Railway Express. This small caliber firearm was most likely carried by a station master or clerk in an Railway Express depote. The Railway Express truck drivers always carried a .45 acp S&W or Newservice revolver. I Really like this little gun and now looking for a good deal on one in .38 special.
