Colt Peacekeeper DA .357

41special

I recently got a Colt Peacekeeper 4" DA .357 Mag. It looks like a King Cobra but with a 3/4 shroud and it's parkarized.

I can't seem to find much on them, does anybody know anything about them ?

It's the only one I've seen before or since.

Thanks

I think the Peacekeeper was made during the strike days at Colt. I believe it has a dull matte finish as they didn't have the regular polishers working. They were only made 2 years (1985 - 1987) I think. They are basically a Trooper MkV.

Right.

During the strike, Colt's polishers were out, and they didn't have enough people to polish everything.

Since revolvers are harder to polish properly, Colt introduced a series of more-or-less unpolished revolvers with a black, parkerized finish.

These guns were:
The Peacekeeper. Actually the Trooper Mark V.

The Commando. This was a Detective Special, NOT to be confused with the WWII Commando, which was a parkerized Official Police.

The Cobra and Agent. For some unknown reason, Colt didn't give a special name to these two aluminum-framed guns in the black finish.

As soon as the strike allowed, Colt discontinued the unpolished models.

Internally, the guns were made to the same standard as the polished guns, and these were good deals if you could stand the rough exterior finish.

If I may ask, how much was your gun? I have been looking at one at a local pawn but it seems pricey at $489.

Well I paid about 400ish for mine but I saw a 6" go on gunbroker for 250.

But you don't see many at all, I definately would'nt over pay for b/c is really no different, but I also would'nt pass on it b/c it is so different.

So did you pick it up ?

Not yet. Spent the week in LA on business. $489 is too much considering that the Peacekeeper a less refined gun due to a strike going on at Colt.

A college friend of mine taking LE classes had one, and it struck me as one of the nicer medium frame Colts out there. It was sort of an interum gun between the older Troopers and the newer King Cobras. I always thought that with its parkerized finish and all it was a good tactical fighting revolver.

Up until I learned what the deal was from the writer's here, I thought that was the purpose of the finish on the revolver - to be tactical. They had me fooled. I still think it serves a tactical purpose perfectly.
