Colt No longer repairs old pistols!!!

I sent my DS and an OP to Pittsburg Handgun HQ a while back and just got off the phone with them this afternoon. They weren't able to adjust the site (the barrel was unscrewed a little to the left) as they didn't have the part to do it. I ask if they could forward it to Colt, they said it wouldn't do any good as they have dozens of customers telling them that Colt just sends their gun back and their stance now is that they won't work on the old pistols. Where is Colt going? They keep tightening their budget and all they have now are variations of the 1911 and the AR-15.

I guess I'd better try Cylinder and Slide. How long do they usually take?

Colt will not perform SOME repairs on SOME guns. I'm sure you will find the same thing at Ford, Singer, John Deere, Panasonic, etc. Why don't you call Colt, and see if they'll fix it. My understanding is that they won't work on guns for which they have no parts, and they won't deface a classic just because someone wants bright nickel on their grandad's service pistol. Give them a call.

Wow Doug, that is amazing. You report that Colt no longer repairs old pistols, but you didn't even bother to contact Colt to verify if this is true or not or if they will work on your pistol or not. Then, all you want to know is how long Cylinder and Slide will take and you haven't bothered to contact them either.

If you have a S&W made before 1958 then you can forget them working on that also. Everyone has a cutoff line because parts are no longer available.

I believe it in part because of what another gunsmith told me that "the factory won't touchum" and also they personally sent me back my 1944 OP saying in writing "Colt no longer services this model."

Before this happened, I called colt and ask them if they still worked on old guns. I told them it was a 1943 or 44 Official Police and they said they might, depending on what was wrong. I told them what was wrong (it was throwing by and needed to be retimed...mind you they still made the Python which had the same internal parts) and they sent it back with nothing more than the words quoted above. I called them back up and they told me they didn't make parts for those guns and recommended several service places that did have parts (PHH was one, Jack First was another, and I think maybe Cylinder and Slide was too).

I'm ready to give CS a call, but I'd like some opinions on them, are they good, their site says it can be from 4 weeks to 5 months if I remember right.
