Colt Mustang Pocketlite .380

Kentucky Rifle

I just finished cleaning my Mustang. Mine is a great "summer pistol". Weighs only 12.5 oz. I keep it in a Galco hip pouch when I ride my motorcycle. Very handy. I know that some people have had problems with Mustangs (usually the blue model), so I'd be interested in hearing experiences. (Both Mustang and Pony Pocketlite models.) I know that the .380 is the absolute bottom for defense pistols, but I like mine a lot. It's been perfectly reliable. I keep the magazine loaded with alternating rounds of Glasers/Hydra-Shoks.

The Mustang Pocketlite (in stainless/alloy, especially) is a great pistol and ought be the most lamented of all the discontinued Colts...as there is really no equivalent from another maker. Mine works perfectly. One can lavish tons of customizing on them, but all they REALLY need is a stiffer mag catch spring and a good dehorning. I find the sights quite useable if I put a blob of yellow paint on the little gray front sight.

Almost as useful (and also discontinued) is the Pony Pocketlite. The Pony's DAO trigger pull is excessively heavy however.

Thanks for the replies. I hope there will be a few more. I purchased my Mustang Pocketlite new for $389.00, plus $14.00 for an extra stainless mag.
The gun shop had Pony Pocketlites for the same price. I wish I had bought a Pony also. At the last gun show (Louisville) new Pony's were going for $550.00. I was talking to a UPS pilot who had just paid $550.00 for a new Pony and he thought he was lucky.
Maybe he was.

I just picked up a Pony today. Bought it used for $400. New ones were going for over $600.
Neat gun. The trigger is pretty stiff, stacking heavily before letoff.

've had the Mustang Pocketlite for about 2 years. I carry with it regularly. It's been 100% reliable (I carry with ball ammo). Reasonably accurate (groups 6-9" @15 yards) I agree that nobody offers a comparable deep carry pistol. I keep hoping Kel-Tec will come out with a .380 like their P-32. I bet it would sell like crazy!

To the previous poster: you should check out the ballistics for the Fiocchi 60 gr. 32 out of the Kel Tec. It's almost identical in power to the mustang with a .380 90gr. The only difference to me is a little bullet mass.

To the original poster: I bough my Mustang Pocketlite for the same price, $389. Sold it for $430 after I bought the KelTec P32. Mine had to go back to Colt once for a loose rear sight and an oversized chamber. Once I got it back it was 100% reliable (it was before too) and I could shoot sub 6" groups from the bench at 25yds. The KelTec is just as accurate, just harder to shoot that well. I loved mine, but like the 6# DA trigger of the P32 better.
