Colt Mustang front sight and fingernail polish??

Kentucky Rifle

For my tired eyes, the front sight on my Mustang Pocketlite is nearly invisable in the low light of the indoor range I go to. Someone advised putting a drop of fingernail polish on the front sight. I went to the pharmacy and there are several (!) colors and prices. Any suggestions as to the color? Orange?? Also, should I just buy the least expensive polish?

Well hello !! I used Bright orange model paint on the front sight on my Springfield and it worked great I used a very thin model paint brush for it!! Never heard of using nail polish but i guess that would work!

Good Luck

Kevin :)

A model hobby shop should have little bottles of FLAT model enamel. I like bright yellow for the front sight on my Mustang Pocketlite. Nail polish works, but it is shiny.

For night shooting, why not cover whatever your choice is in some of the glow in the dark stuff with glitter?

One thing nice about fingernail polish, you can change the front sight color to match your outfits. LOL

Metal model paint will work better as it seens to last longer, just clean the front sight of all oils before applying.

Forget that crap.

Get some sight paint from BrightSights (I use the yellow).

I have used "White Out" with good results. You can get it at any office suppy store. One bottle will last a lifetime.

WESHOOT2,
Thanks for the link.
That sounds like just what I need. I'll order a bottle in the morning.
I appreciate the suggestion.

Um, that BriteSight looks to me like model paint in a fancy bottle (And at a fancy price)

I use testers model paint, at 97 cents each for bright orange and white, which I bought at my local drugstore.

A toothpick puts it on just fine. Accuracy on my P-32 improved dramatically.

FWIW :)

I have the same problem with the Colt .380 sights (and others). Testor's model paint here, too. White mostly, red sometimes. Apply with toothpick like maxinquaye.

The front sight isn't worthy of the name, I'd get a real front sight installed. I sent my Mustang to SM&A for their Pocket Carry Package, and it now sports real sights, among the many other enhancements.

BrightSights has some kind of BRIGHT almost GLOWING component; did the Testors route umpteen years ago.
Nothing I've painted on my fronts has been as bright as BrightSights (my wheels wear Millett orange-ramp fronts, my 1911 has a optic-fiber front).

JohnWill,

How long did they take? How much do you like the PCP package? Would you do it again?

It took SM&A about 6 weeks to do the work, and I'll have to admit, I had to send it back for a loose sight, but they made it right. I would certainly do it again if I were considering it as a carry gun, it really makes a neat little pistol a great carry pistol. This was done a while back, so I'm not sure what the package includes or costs nowadays, it used to be $200 or so. I had special sights done on mine, so it cost a bit more...
