Colt Model M

Does anyone have disassembly instructions for the Colt Model M, AKA Colt Model 1908, AKA Colt Pocket Model? The pistol in question is a magazine safety Type IV. I can't intuit what to do next, once I clear the pistol and retract the slide rearward to the arrow.

Thanks for your consideration.

Harley:

I received the documentation in good order; the text and photos are crisp and clear. You gave me exactly what I asked for.

Thanks again for your effective help.

Slowpoke, you've got to check Sam Liskers Colt Home page, He has a lot of info on the Model M, including production dates by seriel number. Great site.

This is a pic of mine, which came down from uncles grandfather to him to my Dad to me.

Some advice. Do NOT take that pistol down any further than removing the slide and barrel for normal cleaning. They come apart easy and go together hard. Believe me.

NORTEXED,

I don't want to be picky, but your picture appears to be a Colt 1903, not a 1908. FWIW, this is a Colt 1908...

Hi, Johnwill and folks.

Beautiful picture, Johnwill. There is some confusion on the model numbers. The dates are used by collectors but were not used by Colt. Collectors call both the .380 Model M Pocket Model and the .25 Vest Pocket Model the "Model 1908". The picture is of the VP model, but the poster clearly said his gun is the Model M, so it is, presumably, the .380 pocket model.

I don't want to get into Colt's use of the term "pocket model".

NORTEXED, you are, of course, correct! If it's a .380, it's the 1908. I thought we were talking about the .32, but I'm easily confused. :D

johnwill, after reading my own post, I realized it sounded smart a**ed,. Please believe it wasn't meant that way, I have run into that same strange thing before. When I do a search on gunbroker.com or some of the others for a "Colt 1908" I get the vest pocket models unless I specify ".380", in which case, mine comes up. Weird?:D

NORTEXED, no sweat, no offense taken. Besides, when you don't read carefully enough and post a stupid comment, a little swat is just what you need to get your mind right. :D Besides, I got to examine a couple of pictures of the "other" 1908, have to get one of those someday. :)
