I have one on law away and am considering on not getting it. It is a carry handle one and it is not the best for mounting a scope. I was figuring if I didn't like the scope on top of the carry handle I could always sell it and get something else. After thinking about it, I would have to advertise and wait for a buyer that wants one and if he was not local I'd have to ship and pay the FFL fee to ship it.

Also I can by a Stag model 4 with flat top and removable carry handle for $100.00 less. The Stag also has a life time warranty and guaranteed 1" groups at 100 yds.

What would you guys do ?

It sounds like the Stag has the features you want at a price that's more attractive. Stag makes good quality ARs, I'd not feel like that's a step down in quality (more to the side).

IMO, if you want to scope it, get the Stag. It's a mistake to get a gun that you know isn't what you want. You'll take a major hit on resale if you decided to sell off the Colt.

another option was to swap out the colt carry handle receiver for a new flat top receiver. but then it wouldn't all be colt and more cost involved.

I have the same rifle, I swapped out the upper receiver for a flattop. I'll admit it's a lot cheaper when you have the tools and knowledge to do it yourself.
