Colt Hbar match target ?

I don't want to start a debate, I would just like some information since I am considering on buying one. It is used and manufactured in 2009. It looks brand new and not a mark or scratch or anything on it any where. However the bolt carrier rail is shiny on one side only, the other side is still black, could that be a sign of a problem ?

How many of you guys own one that can tell me about its accuracy ? A friend has one that he gets 2" groups at 100 yds with the original iron sights.

Shouldn't be a problem, sounds like it has been fired very little. After a few thousand rounds the bolt rails well look the same on both sides. A 20" H-bar can shoot moa with the right ammo and shooter.

I bought one in 1986 and have enjoyed it ever since. It's dropped numerous prairie dogs as well as posting some pretty decent scores on the National Match course of fire.

Mine came with the standard military rear sight with 1 and 1/2 MOA elevation adjustments and 1/2 MOA deflection adjustments. The elevation is a bit corse for precise zeroing, but it allows the trajectory drum (300 to 800 meters) to follow the trajectory of the green tip 5.56mm round. I replaced the the rear sight with a unit with 1/2 MOA adjustments for elevation. I don't know about the HBARs made in 09, but if it has the 1 and 1/2 MOA sight on it, it's worth replacing the unit with a 1/2 MOA sight, unless you plan to use a scope on it.

Mine has always been a 1 and 1/2 MOA rifle with Match King bullets from a bench and with an old Colt 3X AR scope on it for testing. Before we got the M4A1 Carbines, I used to take it in on qualification days and I always shot Expert with it, usually 40 out of 40. It was always more accurate than my issue M16A2.

I've been happy with Colt ARs. My present version has a 20" barrel; I guess it's about the same as the A2 they came out with in the 80s. Anyhow, I can half-way regularly get three-shot one-MOA groups with it with the irons. Well, since I got the cataract surgery, anyhow. :)

Odds are that a heavy barrel/bull barrel would likely shoot one MOA for five shots. From what I've seen and read, to get tighter groups generally requires a free-floated barrel. I once had a Bushmaster Match Target which was reliably half-MOA, so I guess the same setup would work on a Colt.

Unfortunately not. It has the standard handgard assembly, at least I've never seen an unmodified factory HBAR with a floating barrel. The heavy barrel does allow moderate sling pressure without change of zero, unlike the older M16A1 with the pencil barrel.

I'll be retiring soon and will have a bit more time for match shooting again and one of my projects will be to either rebarrel and use a floating handguard, or just buy a good upper with a good barrel that is free floated and of course good match sights.
