Colt Double Eagle in .45 ACP - Experiences? Comments?

After reading the thread [Link to invalid post], it is apparant that the 10mm DE is a POS. A co-worker friend recently bought one NIB in .45 ACP. He said he has talked with other owners and they say they don't have any problems.

Is this pistol as bad as some people say?
Does anybody have a GOOD experience with the DE?

Any other comments will be appreciated.

Thanks for your help.
Jason

P.S. This friend also recently bought a new computer, so I might get him hooked onto TFL. ;)

Owned a Double Eagle Stainless Officer´s Model (.45 ACP) a few years ago. It was reliable, accurate (comparable to my 1911 and CZ85 although the shorter barrel and sight radius began to show at a distance). Quality and finish was excellent and the controls were set up nicely (decocker was easy to reach). It was exactly what it was advertised as (a DA/SA 1911). The onliest thing I did not EVEN like was the exposed lockwork and spring located under the grip panel (IMHO, not a weapon to drag thru the mud). On the other hand, the Beretta 92 has a similar design flaw. In the end, I sold it in favor of a compact ParaOrdnance. The Eagle was just a little too heavy for its size compared to the new wave of concealable pistols appearing during mid-90s. I honestly thought that it shot as well as a comparable sized 1911 SA OM, but was not nearly as accurate, light, or hi-cap as the Para Ordnance.

I had friend who owned one after they came out. I shot it a few times and it worked fine for me, I just did not care for it, though. He kept it for a few years, but eventually got rid of it. He said he was having too many problems with it, though didn't specify what problems.

I'm the co-worker/friend jcoyoung mentioned. Thank you all for your input. I've only owned wheelguns prior to the .45 DE I bought NIB. I'll let you know what I think after I've fired it.
