Hi Folks,

New the site and forum so excuse if this question has been asked before. All of my old Shooters Bible from the 70's and 80's were stolen and I've been trying to figure out what the base price was for a Colt Diamondback and Python.

Configurations:

Blued 4" and 6" both for the Diamondback and Python .357, vent rib on both

Nickel 4" and 6" both for the Diamondback and Python .357, vent rib on both

The prices I'm looking for would have been the suggested retail in Shooters bible for the year 1978.

Thanks for you help.

Fowl Mood, I don't have a 1978 Shooters Bible but I do have a 1977 edition. According to the 1977 book, the .38 Special Diamondback was only available with a 2 1/2" or 4" barrel. The price for a 4" blue gun was $195.95 and the nickel gun was $199.95.

The 4" blue Python was $284.95 and the nickel 4" was $299.95.
The 6" blue Python was $289.95 and the 6" nickle was $299.95.

Thanks Mark, that's helpful. Really makes me wish I'd have bought them then, they seem to be off the charts these days.

I was able to get a 6" Royal Blue Colt Python from 1978 in March of 1979 for $385. This was the second shop I tried. The first shop I tried quoted $425 and had to order it. The first shop spent more than 2 months trying to order it. One trip to the second shop and the Python came home with me.

Just as a point of interest, if we adjust the prices BubbaBlades quoted for inflation, we get the following:

4" Blue Diamondback- $770.38
4" Nickel Diamondback- $786.11

4" Blue Python- $1,120.29
4" Nickel Python- $1,179.26

6" Blue Python- $1,139.94
6" Nickel Python $1,179.26

This is according to this inflation calculator using 1977 and 2014 as our years of reference:
