Colt Detective Special

I just inherited an older model Colt Detective Special 38 without the shroud over the ejector rod. The serial number is 461xxx. There is a "T" stamped above the last letter of the serial number and an "N" stamped below the serial number.

Can anyone tell me the date of manufacture and about how much it's worth (it's in excellent condition)? Thanks in advance for any info.

Malomead, your Colt Detective Special was made in 1938 and would be considered a first issue or pre-war version. In excellent condition it could be worth about $550-$800. Premiums would be added for square butt or nickel finish. Hope this helps!

Be careful not to pistol whip any hardhead with the bbl as you will bind it up. :p Those were designed for a straight poke in the eye. Congratulations on your nice piece.
