Colt Detective Special question

Good evening, I have been watching for other Detective Special owners. I have quite a few handguns but one of my favorites is my 1934 Colt Detective Special. My grandfather bought the gun new in 1935 when he went on the Chicago police dept. He carried it as his second gun for over 20 years. My father took over the gun when he went in the Chicago dept. When I went on the police dept. in New Jersey it was my second piece. 15 years ago I sent it back to Colt and had them go over the gun completely and it was good to go. I sent it to Armoloy in Texas and had it Armoloy plated to help with the every day ankle wear. That Armoroly plating is great. Saw it at a gun show and had to have it. Anyway, here is my question. Now that I am retired and carry it CCW. what ammo do you think I can get away with? I won't carry +P in it because of its age. Right now I carry Winchester Silver Tips. Any thoughts?

I believe Buffalo Bore makes a non +P lead semi-wadcutter hollow point, I carry full wadcutters in my Colt Cobra. I tried some 95gr silvertips a hundred years ago but don't remember being wowed by them.

Factory...158 Semi Wadcutter Hollow Points. Maybe 148 SWCHP, maybe.

The lighter weight bullets pack a bit more powder that creates steel stretching pressure.

I know all the rage with .38 specials is a light, expanding, super duper secret alloy automatic homing one stop gunfighter from haties womber stompers...that miss because you never practice with them. Show me the man who regulary blasts bullets costing a buck fifty a piece just for practice with a 38 snub.

Yea yea, I know...thousands, right? Right.

I have a 3rd generation Detective Special - 1984. I Carry Buffalo Bore Standard Pressure Hardcast - 150 grain full wadcutters.

I sure hope those beefalo bullets are good. Anytime a bullet question comes up it's always buff this and buff that. When all you have a hammer all your problems look like nails.

Federal has brought back the nyclad hp in. 38 it is a standard pressure load that has a reputation for reliable expansion.

I don't want to sound like a paranoid bozo but I wouldn't carry a gun with that much sentimental value. Were something to happen and it was usef, it could be out of your hands for a good amount of time- being a cop I expect you know that though. I've heard a couple horror stories of people getting beloved carry pieces back in rough shape.
