what do you all think of this gun.
i want a 1911 style so bad, but i already have 4 .45's and i want something new, so the delta elite in 10mm seems to be a good choice.
i just want you all's opinions on it before i make a leap and buy one.
thanks
The Delta Elite is a very nice weapon. I had one for 3 years before selling it to my Dad so that I could get a HP. It handled everything I fed it and shot well out to 25 yds. for me.
There were some reports of slide breakage at the beginning due to the high pressure of the 10mm but Colt fixed that and as far as I know there have been no problems.
10mm is definitely a HOT round and one that I would feel well protected behind.
Let me know how it goes.

The best weapon for self defense is the one you have when the need arises!
The Colt 10MM DE is an excellent pistol. We've used two of them here at the plant and they goggled up everything in fine style. I do believe as a group they are he most accurate 1911 Colts ever made. Go buy it!
I have one of the early models and the only thing that ever went wrong was the sear/trigger/hammer had to be replaced. This was after a trigger job that may have been of questionable quality.
If you plan on shooting a lot of full power loads in it, get a 28lb spring from Wolff's. It will alleviate your worrying about the wear and tear horror stories. I have one in mine and the gun works great with it.
My Delta Elite is excellant. It is very accuarate.
Suposedly there was a problem with frame cracking at the hole for the slide stop on early guns, the Colt fix was to simply remove the top of the hole. My pistol has the mod.
I tried a 24lb spring but had too many feed problems (also tough to install) so I use a 20lb wolf spring and a CP buffer. This combo seems to work well with the moderate 10mm loads I prefer.
I have owned a Colt Delta Elite since they first came out in 1988. It is my favorite handgun (and caliber). I have customized it to perfection. "Wilson" makes excellent 9 round magazines for the Delta Elite(and one in the chamber makes 10). They also sell a "full length recoil spring guide assembly" for the gun that is a MUST. I couldn't improve on the factory sites. I kept the factory trigger also. I just had it adjusted to 4 lbs. You'll love it.
