Colt Delta Elite 10mm + 40 S&W barrel

I had been looking for a 1911 with both 10 mm and 40 S&W barrels (I think Dan wesson had a pistol pack combo slides). Well, I got a LNIB condition Colt Delta Elite 10 mm with a 40S&W barrel. Supposedly, the 40 barrel was custom fitted to use the same bushing as the 10 mm barrel at the colt custom shop with a 4 lbs customized trigger and Bomar sight. Paid waay too much but I had to have it.
Question:
1. What types of mags will fit into it (or get for it)?
2. Does any factory manufacturer make reasonably priced 10mm ammo?
3. Where can I get wood grips with the delta moniker on it?

Won't be able to shoot it for another 3-4 weeks (work).

Congratulations!!

I have a Caspian 10/.40 set up the same as you have, both barrels fitted to the same bushing. When I swap calibers, all I do is swap barrels and recoil springs.

1. I use Metalform 9rd 10mm mags. I know others who swear by CMC 10mm mags.

2. Georgia Arms markets reasonably priced ammo for the 10, both practice and carry ammo.

3. I cannot answer that. When castlebravo logs in, he can tell you.

You may think you paid too much, but you got a lot of gun for your money.

John: Thanks :)
What kind of recoil spring do you recommend for the .40 barrel? I think the one recoil spring that came with the gun is for the 10 mm. It feels a bit stiffer than the spring on my 1911 .45ACP.

I use the .40 in IDPA. With that said, I roll my own and am shooting at between 135 and 140pf. Using a 14# recoil spring. For factory .40, I imagine a 16# spring would work best. For 10mm, I use a 20# spring with a shock buff.

Double recoil spring!

Yikes!
This is the first chance I've had to field strip my colt delta elite. It has a short guide rod with a double recoil spring???
1. Can I substitute a single full length guide rod and a single recoil spring in place of whats already there? (I kinda like the full length guide rods).
2. Will the 10 mm mags hold the .40S&W cartridges when I shoot with my .40S&W barrel or do I need a specific (.40 cal) mag?
Sorry so many questions, but this is my first gun with two barrels and a double recoil spring set up

Step one: Ditch that #@%*$^! plastic recoil spring guide! Replace it with your favorite brand of full length guide.

Springs: 16 to 18 pounds for most .40 S&W loads. 18 to 23 pounds for most 10mm loads.

Sometimes the .40 will function just fine through 10mm mags. Only one way to find out, go shooting!!!

Sounds like a nice piece. I have had two Colt 10mms a Delta Elite and a Delta Gold Cup. Both are a hoot to shoot.

No, you don't need to replace the recoil spring guide unless you want to. Colt knew what they were doing with the dual set up.

Enjoy your new toy. Congratulations!
