Colt Defender - Questions, Opinions, and clarification.

Long time lurker, Newbie poster here,
I am about to purchase a Colt Defender. This is my first 1911 style pistol. I have some questions and some things I wanted to make sure I was correct in assuming.

1. Colt Officer mags and grips will fit this gun correct?

2. I have the option to have it polished and throated by a pro for free before I even shoot it, should I wait? (gun is new btw)

3. Other than Milt Sparks (which I like) does anyone know of a good IWB for this gun that won't take 3 months to get?

4. Is a ambi-thumb safety possible to get for the Defender?

5. Any major probs out of this gun for anyone? I have only ever heard good things.

6. Preferred carry method for Defender?

7. Any one have any pics of their tricked out Defenders?

Like I said this is my FIRST 1911 style gun, so if these questions are stupid then please keep the flames on low heat.

:) Much thanks in advance.... dinojas

re colt defender?

Hi dinojas, welcome to the board. I have a defender and it is my carry gun,I love it.As to your questions:
1. yes, officer mags and grips will fit without any problem
2. If you can get it done by a pro for free,by all means have it done. That will only make it more reliable.
3. You can get milt sparks holsters from lastsports.com without any wait.Although they are a little higher. I use a don Hume jit slde on mine and like it,but it is an owb hoster. I just ordered an iwb from comp-tac. it is a kydex undercover model.
4.I am not sure about this question,so I'll skip this one.
5.I have had no probs with mine at all.
6. I carry on my strong side withe the jit slide, but thinking of going with an iwb.
7.no pics, don't know how to do it. sj

Here's a pic of mine - Ned Christiansen has done "some" work on it :D

2) If the pro polishes through the anodizing on the frame feed ramp, the gun might be junk in short order. Anodizing provides some protection for the relatively soft aluminum frame, so you/he shouldn't mess with it.
4) The XS Defenders came with ambi safeties; this is a new-production XSE version? Any "1911" ambi can be made to fit (it's not a drop-in part).

Mine is box stock and has been since I got it in "98. Feeds everything 100% I have put through it. Shoot it before you do any tinkering with it. Like the other guy said, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
