colt defender 45 cal. good or bad . no politics please

The Defender is a nice gun. Colt slimmed down the size from their other compacts to make the Defender what they consider "the ultimate carry piece". The recoil is noticeable but not unbearable.
Personally, there are other carry pieces I would purchase before the Defender but I'm not you. The price of the Def. went from 550 to over $700 here in Central PA. That's if you can even find one. All the little groupies went and plucked up a ton of Colts. jerks..

A good friend got on the groupie bandwagon and, although he already had a good number of pistols, bought one and it would not work reliably. One or two FTFs per magazine. After a month of messing with it he dumped it. Sample size = 1, but not a good indication. John

I have a Colt DEFENDER. Works great! Love it! It ran great out of the box,but I always customize my 1911's.Now it's almost perfect.(notice I said almost. No gun is perfect!) A friend of mine has one, and he likes his.I would recomend this gun, they seem to be very good. I can't see why every topic on handguns has to include a few people bashing a gun or a manufacturer. It seems they want to push thier brand on you by telling about problems a "friends gun" has. They also include a story on how they sold it for alot less than they paid for it because of a few FTF's or a broken spring. Dosen't every town have a trusted gunsmith? (they should). I recomend the DEFENDER, if you have a small problem with it, get it fixed!Don't sell it for $3.00 and then tell everyone else it was junk! It shows your lack of gun knowledge, and your lack of common sense!! ;)
( I am in no way singling out one person, there has been alot of this on TFL!)

Because all we have to go on are our individual experiences. If I were rich they would all be my experiences. BTW - he got his money back from a bigger groupie. Anybody know a good gunsmith in Richmond, Virginia - me either. John

I have one myself and for over a year it was the only one id leave the house with,It is extremely accurate for its size, lightweight, and a blast at the range. The only thing i did to mine was have a trigger job done on it and replace the factory mags with the Wilson`s.as they are all i use in my single stacks or at the least the Mcormicks mags ,they are a little cheaper .Bottom line is i love mine great carry peice.but seeing as how colts are getting scarce now i decided to retire mine and replace mine with a new one that i did not have to worry about getting beat up or lost or stolen,so i bought a glock as they are a hack of a lot cheaper than the colts and kimbers and i would not care as much if i lost one as they are all the same .Where is if i lost a cherished 1911 id go nuts they are like my children around here!!!!!!!!!

I bought mine about a year ago and love it ,
I changed the trigger to a wilsons and in stalled trijicon night sites on it .
It goes out when I go out .

Hey CaptainDC,

cjb: You have a good analysis on how to deal on guns when the owner encounter some problems to it. Instead of throwing fault on the gun itself, the problem should be remedied and be fixed. Not throwing the blame on the manufacturer.

It is like of a caricature I have seen, when your computer has trouble, don't hammer or shoot it, but fix it.

Thanks
