Colt Custom Shop 1911A

I was with a friend who picked up new 1911A from at a show that I'd like to get your opinions on:

Colt Model 80 series
Custom Shop .38 Super
Full size slide and grip
Flat-Top slide, with matte finish but polished sides
3-dot white sights
Beavertail grip safety
Checkered front-strap wrap grips with logo
Beveled ejection port
2 Colt magazines
NEW, in original box
Price $679!

Was this as good a deal as I think it was? Is this a regular item that the Custom Shop does? If so, I may try to track down the dealer to get one myself.

I have seen them at several shows in the same condition for $600 to $650 or so.

Fit and finish were really nice. There always seem to be at least one table at the shows that has one. They must have made quite a few. Or they aren't keepers. I don't know. I do know I almost picked one up last year but had extracted the max amount already from the ATM and couldn't get more cash that day.

A lot of people shy away from .38 Super. They don't realize it was developed to punch through body armor by police back many decades ago.
