Colt Company = American Western Arms

Lately, I've been seeing a lot of ads from American Western Arms advertizing their single action revolver, "The Peacekeeper" ...
quote:

Once, It Bore The Name Of A Great Man ...

Now, This Gun Bears The Name Of A Great Country ...

AMERICAN WESTERN ARMS.[/quote]
The tone of their ads makes me wonder if they are in some way related to Colt. Did Colt maybe spin them off as a seperate company, the way AT&T spun off Lucent a few years ago to be it's own company and stand on it's own two feet by itself?

Anybody hear of them or know what their origins are?

Yes, no....maybe. Actually I doubt it. Rodger Hunziker, owner of Philips & Rodgers in Texas (the makers of the Meduza) was building the last of the double action revolvers from Colt before they stopped. Colt was building the Single Action Army in their custom shop from parts supplied by Aldo Uberti. The Colt Cowboy, which Colt even calls a reproduction of the famed SAA in their literature, was built in the main shop using cast frames.
U.S. Patent Firearms purchased a few of the old Colt buildings and a lot of their tool works and began building their own copies (clones) of the SAA. If anything I would guess that this company (American Western Arms) may be an off shoot of them. However I doubt that to. I suspect that they are an independent company using a play on words in their marketing to solicit business.

Of course all of the speculation above about the company is just that....speculation. But it is speculation based on how the companies have done business in the past.

BTW, does American Western Arms have a web site? I'm always in the market for more quality built single actions. :)

Try - www.awaguns.com

Website is still being developed. I have a brochure, and am inclined to believe they are an independent operation, intent on importing very high quality repros from italy. Good stuff, no junk. Time will tell.

They bought Armi San Marcos in Italy and are importing the Italian clones under their new company name. No relation to the Colt company at all.

Colt was making "the last of the Single Action Armys" from Uberti parts? Say what? Colt is still making SAA's, and they've never been made from imported parts. The Colt black powder line is made from Italian parts, assembled in the U.S. under license from Colt.
