Colt Commanders-Ambi Safety?

Looking over www.youngsguns.com, I noticed they are offering the Colt Commander. The one pictured is stainless and has an ambidextrous safety. Is this a "typo" with the picture or do all Combat Commanders come with an ambi-safety? Looked over my Traders guide and it doesn't mention anything about it.
If not, than would you recommend Colt to do the work or someplace like Wilson, Cylinder and Slide, etc?

Thanks,

Jon

I don't believe all the Combat Commanders come with Ambi safeties, but that doesn't mean the one being sold doesn't have one. Instead of asking us whether it is a type or not, why not ask the seller?

All stock Commanders come with standard safeties from Colt.

I am a little wary of ambi safeties on guns meant to be carried cocked and locked, and I am not a big fan of extended safeties like on some custom guns either.

I think the standard, unilateral safety is the best.

I don't think it was standard from the factory, but you can get an ambidextrous safety installed on most any M1911, whether full-size or commander or whatever. I prefer ambi safeties and have had them installed on 2 of M1911s, including the Kimber Compact that I usually carry and is currently on my hip. I've never had the safety wiped off in the holster. YMMV.

Colt Commanders - Ambi Safety?

The Commander you've seen may be an XS model or perhaps some enhanced version. My new-in-box XS Officers came with ambi safety. I like the ambi for concealed carry (C&L) because I can check the safety while it's in the holster to make sure it's not off. No problems with the ambi. Out of curiosity, what's the asking price for this Commander?

Thanks for the replys all!
Doctor J, the price on the Colt Commander is $765.58, it is in fact an XS series, and is Stainless, with fixed sites.
When you go to www.youngguns.com it takes you to Gun Search, just put in "Colt" for the manufacturer, and pick handguns/semi-automatic/.45AP.
Great site, great prices. Gives me an idea of how much a gun should cost me before I buy. So far it's been right on the money at least as far as my local gunstore goes.
Thanks for the info on the XS series, I did not know that. I too like an ambi-safety as it allows me to utilize the safety with both my right/left hand.
