Colt Border Patrol but MK V

Hello guys..
Has anybody ever seen a Colt Border Patrol model with a MK V chassis?
Here's a bad pic of the revolver..But a clearer pic of the roll mark of Border Patrol.
Serial # 438XX V lands her in 1984 production..

As we've discussed on the Colt forum, this is one of those real Colt oddities.

Colt says the Second Issue Border Patrol was just a Trooper Mark III with BP barrel stamp and a lesser polished finish.
They say production ran from 1970 to 1975.

However, the Colt Trooper Mark V was introduced in 1983, years after the Border Patrol was discontinued.

So, we have a Colt mystery. An unknown Colt Border Patrol model based on the Mark V and made long after the Second Issue Border Patrol was supposedly discontinued.

This is one of those Colt's that you really need to buy a Colt Archive letter for.
It would be very interesting to see what the Colt records say about this.
It might be a prototype for what was to have been a Third Issue Border Patrol that never got produced.

I will get it lettered, just trying to reach as many conspiracy theories as possible.

Maybe even somebody butchered a MKV but found a BP barrel and had it replaced?
Such things keep me awake at night lol

When Colt was transitioning from the Trooper Mark III to the Trooper Mark V in 1983 some Mark III revolvers were fitted with vent rib barrels as used for the Mark V, but had Mark III stamps.

Apparently, some Mark V revolvers were fitted with solid rib Mark III barrels, marked as Mark V models during the transition.

However, again, Colt says the Second Issue Border Patrol was made from 1970 to 1975, and the Mark V wasn't introduced until 1983.

Unless you get a Colt Archive letter, it's all going to be nothing but speculation.

MkV had a much smaller grip frame than a MkIII. Factory grips actually covered the back strap.
