Colt agent vs. cobra

I just know that the Agent has a shorter grip and the ones I have seen appear to have a lower grade finish compared to the Cobra. The Cobra has the same grip profile as the DS.

I'm sure there are other differences that I don't know about. Others will surely elaborate.

The first Agent had the shortened grip frame. It had very nice blued finish like the Cobra-both ahd exposed ejector rods. The only difference was that the Cobra had a longer grip frame and longer grip. The later agents and cobras had shrouded ejector rods but both had the same grip frame however the agent had the shorter grip. The whole reason for the Agent was more concealability.
The last series of Agents was in the 1980's and had the rough parkerized finish and had grips as long as the Cobra hence there was no real difference as far as concealing. The last agents with the parkerized finish were not that great as far as fit and finish and I dont consider them "real" agents as they are not anymore concealble as the Cobra and they were made when quality wasnt the very best with the union workers and strike. They are not in the same class(at least cosmetically) as the first 2 styles. Both are aluminum alloy frames throughout all styles/generations.

Below are pics of my .38 Cobra and my Agent. You can tell the finish on the Agent is rougher. However, this particular pistol is a very smooth shooter and is the revolver I usually choose for belt carry.

Agent

The first Agent evolved when the U.S. Air Force wanted a revolver that weighed one ounce lighter than the Cobra. Colt shortened the Cobra grip frame to meet USAF specifications.

KYjim

Ive got an agent just like yours except the rubber grips dont have any packmyer logo on them.
Mine shot very high (even with 125 grain bullets) ,so I put a dap of JB weld on the front sight. After shooting it,I fine tuned filed it down to where it now shoots close to point of aim.
It is a good shooter -shoots a nice tight group(like most Colts),fits my hand real well with the rubber grips and of course is light weight. not as good looking or concealable as the earlier versions but rugged looking and I shoot it quite a bit and dont have to worry about the finish so much.
