Colt ACE recoil spring question.

I'm shooting a post war ACE, one of the late 70's production guns and recently I've experienced some double feed malfunctions when shooting high velocity ammo like the new CCI Velocitors and I was thinking that perhaps the slide velocity is too high with this ammo. I pulled the recoil spring and compared it to a stock 1911 spring and it looks similar but 3 coils shorter. Does anyone know the weight of an ACE spring? Did Colt just cut 3 coils off of a GI 16 lb spring? If so, should I order a lighter full length 1911 spring or just start with a GI spring and start clipping coils one at a time?

I believe the stock spring is 10#.

According to Wolff's site, www.gunsprings, the ACE uses a 14# recoil spring, at least the conversion unit does. I would think the Service Ace would use the same spring.
