Colt 38 Super?

Can anyone please tell me the difference between the Colt 38 Super and the 38 Super-match grade on the older models? Thanks.

This is only a guess:

The Colts in .38 Super originally used the small semi-rim of the cartridge for headspace. The custom 'smiths of the '80s found that the cartridge was much more accurate if headspaced on the mouth of the cartridge like the 9mm and .45.

*Perhaps* this is the difference?

A match gun to replace the revolver in NRA bullseye centerfire competition? No, I think they made the National Match in 38 spl. and maybe the 38 AMU ( Army Marksmanship Unit - a 38 spl case with the rim turned off )?

I think the latter would be the same as the old National Match .45 ACP, except, of course that it's in .38 Super. Just a guess. I've got to dig out the reference materials to be sure.
