Colt 357 trooper

I was telling my brother about some of the posts on TFL and how everyone seems to like the makorov so much. I stated that I had found a local shop that had the bulgarian mak. for $169.00 and I was going to go ahead and take the makorov plunge and my brother offered me a colt trooper 357 that he has for $200.00. I guess I will have to hold off on the Mak for a little while, but I still would like to have one for a pocket gun. Is the colt destined to go up in value? It is in excellent condition. What would this colt sell for in a gun shop . Does colt still make this revolver? Anyone care to comment on the quality and accuaracy ? Thanks in advance for the help----C.L.

Colt has not made the Trooper for a long time. The .357 Troopr was a well made revolver intended primarily for police service. If I had to make your choice I would pick the Trooper because a .357 Magnum is the most veratile handgun made It will fire all .357 magnum cartridges as well as the entire range of .38 Specials.

Go for the Trooper, I picked one up with only one round fired through it and the original owner deceased-cancer, for 225.00 6 yrs ago. Nice piece! Bought a Mak last month, good one too, but your right the Trooper should go up in value.

cplane, the Trooper, an excellent revolver, was manufactured from 1953 until 1969 with the disignation of simply "Trooper". After under going changes in the lock work it was referred to as the Trooper MKIII until 1983. After yet more imporvments it then became the Trooper MKV until it was discontinued in 1986. Current value in excellent condition is approximately $350 to $400. You got a bargain on what may prove to become your favorite handgun for years to come. :)

Greetings, Excellent choice, you may never
get that kind'a bargain again. As other's
have stated, the Trooper series were well
made firearms. Most were manufactured in
the day's when Colt Industries took pride
in their workmanship; and at a time when
Colt owned the Holley carburetor division,
as well!!! :)

cplane,

Buy it!!! If it's an original Trooper, your brother is only asking about 1/2 it's retail value. Depending on condition, of course.

The original Troopers were refered to as a "workin' man's Python". Same frame and action, no fancy vent rib barrel or Royal Blue finish.

Parts for Pythons/Troopers will be available for many years.

Even if you are being offered a MKIII or MKIV version, $200 is still an okay price.

Good Luck...

Joe
